Dorsey was from Mansfield, TX.....a small town between Dallas & Ft. Worth. He competed best in the 10-year era when Ft. Worth produced Donald & Bruce Curry, Gene Hatcher & Troy Dorsey. Dorsey had some serious competitive fights with Jorge Paez, Kevin Kelley, Tom Johnson and Manuel Medina, and actually won the IBF Featherweight title. Not a great boxer, but always gave it his best effort.
Man, I remember watching this late at night on ITV, and the presenter said we were in for a treat. What a superb fight. 2 fighters going hell for leather for the win. I actually had Dorsey just ahead by a couple on my card as I recall.
Wasn't Dorsey screwed on the score cards a few times throughout his career? I wonder why. It certainly wasn't because he wasn't exciting and marketable... Most realistic outcome is that he simply lacked a proper promoter. I remember scoring his match against Paez, the first one, and he won it by a mile but was screwed on the score cards. Awful decision, one of the worst.
After reading the original post I watched a bunch of Dorsey fights. Man, he took some bad beatings, from Gabe Ruelas, Jesus Chavez, Jesse James Leija. I wonder if he's ok these days?

Bump. Finally found an uploaded video of this fight. Highly worth checking out for those who haven’t seen this overlooked fight. Enjoy This content is protected
I actually had Kelley a slight winner. Dirsey was always in his face, but his technique and punch effectiveness and sharpness began to suffer as the rounds mounted.
Great fight, one of the best that USA TNF ever had. Kelley also had some other exciting fights like Derrick Gainer 1, Naseem Hamed, and Alejandro Gonzalez (although kind of one sided).
