Friday at the Atlantic City Showboat Hotel, eight-rounder, opponent TBA.

He is on a rough patch of form since upsetting & deflowering Jarrett Hurd nearly five years ago. Since then he is 1-3 and without an important victory since - but was very much in the fight with Carlos Adames prior to an iffy referee stoppage this past June.

I think the thirty three year old can still be a dark horse player at MW. Not exactly stacked with talent, Charlo and the Kazakhs aside (neither Brit is very special, nor even close to p4p best in their own families) and buddy's still got fire in his belly. :ggg

I think he might not even be main eventing (a women's fight is). Very low-key and humble comeback. Probably won't be much more than a warm body by way of competition. Guessing he'll smash somebody with a quick KO and look to rack up another victory or two ASAP before contending again.

I don't believe in J-Rock's durability. It let him down at JMW, I can't imagine it won't let him down 6 lbs higher. MW is pretty desolate at the moment but I still can't see him beating the higher level, maybe a Beefy Smith.

That's the thing, there isn't much of a higher level to speak of, is there? Beefy and CEJ are now officially equals before God until they rubbermatch, and above them? Charlo, Alimkhanuly, Mersultanov, and....? Adames is pretty exemplary of the most dangerous 160 can offer elsewise at the moment and J-Rock hung pretty tough with him.

This. Adames is probably a lock for top 5 in this absolute desolate division.

Very true, other than Zhanibek I don't think there really is. Big Charlo as far as I can tell is a SMW now and Derev is on his last legs. I don't know what to make of Lara, he seems effectively retired. Like we both said, it's pretty desolate.............but I just don't trust Williams' resolve. Quick stoppage notwithstanding, Adames was moving him around with shots the entire fight and JRock was definitely not comfortable. You could see it on his face, he was giving Shane Mosley "I just got hit and hate it" reactions. I will say I don't think there's anyone else that's gonna swing for the fences with abandon like Adames but do you trust Williams' chin if he gets clipped by anyone with even a modicum of pop? I sure don't.

Then again, no one at MW is really a huge hitter so.....................

48 hours out from weigh-ins, hopefully they're at least thinking about picking out an opponent. :sisi1

That wouldn't be very J-Rock. That would be more J-elevator-muzak.

Woof. GDV wasn't even all that successful on the Argie domestic scene (best result was managing a draw with Gabriel Fernando Puñalef Calfin) and literally every time he stepped up to international competition he got crunched. Ten stoppage defeats in all.

He's only a year older and half-inch shorter than J-Rock but this feels like an insane mismatch belying those numbers. I'm really hoping for a merciful KO1/2, for both poor Vittori's sake and that of Williams' image...because going a full eight here hurts his progress, badly.
