So this would have taken place after Roy s win over Ruiz, And Sanders win over Klitschko. Sanders, of course a deadly heavyweight whilst Jones, not really a genuine heavyweight. But does anyone give Roy Jones a shot here?
I don't think so. Sanders was very quick and powerful and I think Roy could only defeat plodding heavyweights. I'd actually give John Ruiz a better chance over Sanders.
No. Sanders would ko him with the first straight left he landed. It’s one of the worst matchups for him.
0 chance RJJ had some trouble with Southpaws in his own weightclass Harding, Del Valle, and of course Tarver. A big punching quick handed Heavyweight Southpaw like Sanders who's 6'4 230 pounds ? RJJ would be KO'ed within 2 rounds.
He'd have to do a bit of running to avoid getting kod early imo. One thing Sanders could do is wallop.
Look man, if you went out to find a worse matchup for RJJ at heavy I don't think you could. Sanders let his punches go fast and in bunches and he could really whallop. Worse, he loved to go to the body and especially when faced with slippery speedsters like RJJ. RJJ really didn't have the kind of power to bother Sanders so he'd be trying to win it on points. Good f'ing luck avoiding Sanders' left for 12 rounds.
Corrie Sanders on his game can smoke a TON of legitimate, well rounded heavyweights. Fast ass hands and can really thump and was tough. Jones was dipping his toe to make a show, but he didn't want real problems and that's why he fought the worst of the bunch. I think if Corrie just keeps letting his hands go, eventually he will hurt Jones and take him out horribly.
Maybe if he’s able to last awhile, and then take advantage of Corrie’s stamina issues. But I would make Sanders the favorite. I think he’d land that straight left hand hard and often enough to get Roy out of there.
Horrible match up for him. Sanders had the super-fast hands, and was a southhpaw. Not only would Jones struggle not go get hit with a murderous straight left, be he himself as a hooker did not even have the the right big punch do get to Sanders. With Jones' average chin, it wouldn't take much...
No. He flirted with it in the Summer of 2003. And it’s a good job that he never went through with it.
