Especially how Smith looked being so big in there, with his long arms. Him v Benavidez would be a good match up (not that it will ever happen) as both are Cruiserweight size.
The word great may be a bit too much for me when that word shoud be used for exceptional careers such as Calzaghe, Lennox Lewis etc. Smith had a good career for me winning a World Title from one arm George Groves, Groves simply turning up and fighting only for PPV Loot in that fight, and then losing to John Ryder which clearly highlighted his limitations. Cruelly exposed both times he faced what I consider genuine World Champions and never really looked like doing anything in either fight. I have him in the same bracket as other World Champions nowhere near elite levels such as Anthony Crolla and Ricky Burns. All had good careers with the latter 2 punching well above their weight when much less was expected.
He approached Smith just off the line so Smith couldn’t get the range for the check left hook. Great tactics and a clever fighter.
Context The Irish poster @lencoreastside stating long before the Ryder fight what would happen to 'Plank' Smith. When we were all impressed with Smith blasting opponents out, Hearn's claims of greatness and Adam Smith's orgasms on comms when knocking people out, this poster went against the grain, stuck his neck out to be shot down and seen things that many of us could not see. I am giving credit to @lencoreastside for his excellent boxing insight and Smith for a good career.
Smith spent far too much time on the ropes and did not use his jab enough .Going to the ropes and hoping to counter a puncher like Beterbiev is nonsensical imo.
And based on their showings against the top level you’d fancy Yarde to give it a go. He wouldn’t hold back anyway.
Callum was always way too basic and predictable cause Beterviev any problems…however, I still think another fringe contender could upset the apple cart. His Excellency needs to get moving and make the Bivol fight asap.
Not sure how compubox decides which of Artur's punches are 'power shots'. Should be pretty much every single one.
I know it's a small thing but the over-confidence in British boxing is summed up by their ring attire. Smith continuing to call himself "Mundo" (I know, a nickname from the family years ago, I get it) against a proper pound-for-pound great who destroyed him, kind of sums it up for me. Whoever it was that said the likes of Smith go in with Burns, "million dolla" Crolla etc, who found their way to title shots and wins through good promotion as much as talent. On a brighter note, good of Sky Sports to put the full fight on YouTube this morning for those that didn't stay up (or subscribe).
I just can’t do the early morning cards anymore. Was streaming the Mbilli-Murdock fight in bed and then fell asleep and woke up in round 3 of the Beterbiev-Smith fight. Saw Smith’s marked up face and went back to sleep. Anyway sounds like Yarde put up a far better performance than Smith.
