I was bit worried he might shell up like he did vs Canelo, but he actually did try and turn it around vs Beterbiev and did occasionally some nice shots it's just Beterbiev was too good for him.

So fair play to Smith even though he was out gunned.

Callum is tough as nails. Has nothing to hang his head about. Great fighter. But Beterbiev is an absolute tank and has Atomic power. Even his short 7-8 inch punches have damaging snap on them.

    Pedigree matters

Beterbiev has an answer to everything

I did worry about his age but he just neutralised Callum pretty much immediately

    Great ring IQ

The likes of a Beterbiev are very, very rarely seen. He's a freak of nature. I can't agree that Smith is a 'great fighter'. That term can't be bandied around. He's done well, he's a courageous guy but he failed miserably against Canelo, I cut him slack today but the fact remains he was, way, way off the mark when he fought the best. He doesn't qualify as a great fighter, to me. No disrespect to him, he's had a very good career and can be tremendously proud of himself but the line must be drawn. He fought a 'great fighter' today, he is not one.

Fair enough! I get what you’re saying. And yes you’re right, the terms ‘Great’ and even ‘GOAT’ are used a bit too much these days before they are really earned.

Probably should’ve just done the mayweather and referred to Smith a “One Hellava fighter”:lol: He’s definitely that!

It's all good mate, I'm being a bit pedantic. Anyone who's mixing it, at that level is a very good fighter.

I thought he fought well. He came to fight, looked really dangerous, was having his fair share of success and was competitive in every round, landed some big shots of his own, and proved he was very tough and that there was a reason why he's never been down before. He just came up against an absolute beast who stops every other LHW in the world even at 39 y/o.

That was a way better version of Smith than the one we saw against Clenelo and that version of him would've been good enough to win a world title against a lesser champ than Beterbiev and beat most of the top LHWs in the world.

He did great to be honest. Beterbievs power was too much, he was hurting and busting him up with little shots that would have been totally irrelevant coming from someone else

Kept waiting for Smith to use his jab to keep Beterbiev off him (as Kovalev did successfully with Canelo for most of the fight) or set up his right but he rarely did. Instead Beterbiev walked him down.

    Smith was fighting scared

The difference is in the classes. Smith had no solution for Beterbiev's job. The fact that Beterbiev has all the fights and all the knockouts, and Smith was knocked out for the first time in his career, says something. Beterbiev won all 7 rounds.

He definitely went out on his shield. Was gutted in the post interview to realize he's not the best in the world...he words.

Time to retire. Surely he made enough with the Canelo PAY DAY to settle down in Liverpool. Or in a trailer in Morcombe with Fury.

Yeah, I thought the same. Maybe he felt a bit ashamed after the Canelo performance and felt he couldn't do that again, because you can't in any way fault his effort against Beterbiev.

But I also think that Beterbiev is too heavy hand to shell up like that against. It just hurts too much. The man is a freak of nature. Dpn't think I've ever seen such a strong fighter before. Not in my lifetime at least.

He put up a better effort than Yarde did.

Yarde was successful because he looked to counter with single hard punches and they were more eye catching to the crowd and the casual.

However Callum fought bravely, landed combos and never gave up heart. He was swinging from round 1 onwards.

Credit to him. Give him his respect.

Physically speaking, I think Callum looks good at 175. He throw some great shots and even landed some combinations against Beterbiev. He could easily snag a belt once they fragment

He just went up against a HOF
