Parker vs. Zhang rumoured to feature Joshua/Ngannou Undercard.

Actually Parker ducked Hrgovic maybe 1 year, 1,5 prev.
U can check it. IBF looking for opponents for Hrgovic for mandatory fight and Parker was one of few top names who said "no".

When I look at Hrgovic carrer I dont see any duck of him and many duck from opponents (Ortiz, Ruiz, Hunter, Parker, Bakole and more)

 

Name 10 heavyweights who'd beat Wilder today. Being top ten means you're not past your prime.

I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Hrgovic. He bores me, and has a tendency to land punches to the back of the head that I have a hard time saying are accidental all the time. Plus I'm not gonna lie, I'm still a bit disappointed he got the nod over Zhang, though I don't consider it a robbery like some folks.

That being said, I doubt he's the one to blame for a fight with Parker not materializing. More likely, Parker and his team just weighed the options and went with the one that seemed more winnable, and if I had to guess gets them more money. Plus Zhang is an Interim title holder and not just a mandatory, so that right there is an automatic elevation for whoever holds it when the titles are vacated later in the year.

So yeah, in my opinion nobody is ducking anybody. Just some business maneuvering, which unfortunately is as big a part of boxing as... well, boxing

To be honest I assume it’s the Saudis who decide who fight who, no one else gets a say…including the fighters!!!

 

I generally agree with you that Hrgovic has been ducked left right and centre, it's very frustrating for his fans and I get that. But calling it a duck is definitely too harsh on Parker.

Parker is willing to fight Hrgovic if it makes career sense but it hasn't:

- he chose to fight Joyce for the WBO route rather than Hrgovic for the IBF, it was an equivalently good fight and way more money.

- he is now fighting Zhang, either because Wilder does not want to and/or because his team prefer the Zhang fight, again an equivalently good fight for more money.

In both cases all of us would make the same decisions as Parker, it's not the same as fighting some no-hoper instead. It's a reflection of the fact that Hrgovic is both good and relatively unknown.

I despise the fact that boxing is this way and people like Hrgovic struggle to get a good opponent, but it would be unfair to blame Parker too much as he is one of the few consistently making good fights.

TLDR: Joe was willing to face Hrgovic (why can him out if not - better to stay quiet), but I was fairly sure that, if given the option, he would take Zhang as he has a better chance there and it will raise his profile more. We don't even know if that is what has happened, it's quite possible that Wilder decided he wasn't ready and the Saudis needed someone to fight Zhang (they definitely wouldn't want to drop Zhang and millions of Chinese fans).

 

Off course its good move from Parker to choose Zhang not Filip.
I never said it is not. But me as fan judge it not from his safe perspective but from mine where he second time decide choose someone other even when Filip call him out official

 

Shouldn't Joshua vs that 0-1 guy be on the undercard of Zhang vs Parker instead?
