David Benavidez weighed 260 pounds at 15, and walks around at 200+ allegedly, and missed weight and was stripped of his WBC Title. David Benavidez petitioned the WBC to reinstate him as a contender at 168, after they installed him as the number 1 contender to fight Beterbiev. The main reason Benavidez would never fight Beterbiev, is the mandatory 10 pound rehydration clause of the IBF. Benavidez would be at an extreme power deficit and won’t be able to rehydrate 20 pounds and that would weaken his punch resistance. Beterbiev would stop Benavidez in 6 rounds and end his Mexican Monster boogeyman run. How come Benavidez doesn’t dare to be great and challenge Beterbiev, Bivol, or even Anthony Yarde or Joshua Buatsi level contender?

Benavidez weighed in at 167 and 166 his last 2 fights. He’s fine at the age of 26 at 168. He’s got a long career ahead. 175 isn’t going anywhere.

If Benavidez would be of solid muscle I could understand why you want him to move up in weight but he’s not. Benavidez is perfectly fine at 168, but I’m sure Benavidez would welcome Beterbiev if he wants to drop a weight class. As of now Beterbiev is fighting at 175 and Benavidez at 168, let them fight ppl in their own weight class.

Understandable but he’s fought Andrade, Lemieux, and Kyrone Davis who all moved up from lower weight classes to fight him. Benavidez petitioned to stay at the weight class, to avoid fighting Beterbiev, is that not worthy of criticism? It’s just an interesting argument, I seen raised by a boxing channel, and thought of making the thread.

I don't like saying person A is afraid of person B and they aren't even campaigning in the same weightclass. Let him go to 175 first............then
    revisit this

    He's not afraid

He just wants a shot at Canelo and the payday that comes with it

If it doesn't happen he will probably move up to 175lbs where he will still enjoy a size advantage over people like Bivol, Beterbiev, Azeez, Yarde etc

Canelo will probably never fight Benavidez because there is no upside to doing so.

Well, they all decided to move up in weight by themselves, from my knowledge Benavidez didn’t ask anyone to move up in weight to fight him.

Btw, when did Benavidez say that he’s avoiding Beterbiev and he’s the reason he’s not moving up?

Where is this coming from, it’s no logical reasoning behind your arguments, I would understand if it was Canelo we were talking about.

You guys need to talk about Benavidez vs. Canelo. Force the cash cow's hand. Don't pit David against a monster a division north.
