Probably none of you guys knew, heck I just found out that Luis Ortiz fought last week in Colombia, stopping some random guy called Francisco Cordero in one round. https://boxrec.com/en/event/888840 What is even more strange that Cordero used to be a 130 pounder. So I just imagine what he looks like now at 210 pounds.
It gets even weirder, I can't find any info on this fight other than on Boxrec. Not a picture, not a clip, no discussion, nothing. Googling their names together only turns up the boxrec page and some baseball stuff with a guy also named Luis Ortiz. Are we sure this was a genuine boxing match and not some bar fight they decided to count since both guys are boxers?
Not that I can tell. Even that out of nowhere Michael Hunter fight at least had the knockout up on Twitter before it finally got uploaded by the promoters. Maybe something like that will happen in another day or two? Or at least a picture or discussion somewhere. Not even sure this was professionally recorded honestly, very odd for a guy at Ortiz's level to have a fight that has next to no info on it at all at this point in his career.
Is he still ranked anywhere? My first thought was this somehow keeps or gets him back into the rankings lining him up for a bigger fight (or someone else beating a ranked Luis Ortiz)
Nah, not even by the WBC, and those guys rank up to 40. Must be reacclimating with a small fight before going into anything else. Or hell, considering his age he might be deciding if he wants to keep at it or just hang em up on a win, even if it is one nobody saw.
Jalolov is scheduled to returns on the Fury-Usyk event on February 17. Fury vs Usyk card in full: Tyson Fury vs Oleskandr Usyk Jai Opetaia vs Mairis Briedis II Joe Cordina vs Anthony Cacace Sergey Kovalev vs Robin Sirwan Isaac Lowe vs Hasibullah Ahmadi Moses Itauma vs TBA Bakhodir Jalolov vs TBA David Nyika vs TBA I hope they find a meaningful opponent for Jalolov, he doesn't need to be fed low-level opposition. Someone relatively decent like Charles Martin or Jermain Franklin would be suitable.
This content is protected He’s currently competing in the World Championships. I’m not sold on him, he seems a bit of a one trick pony with that big left.
Turki apparently wants the winner of undisputed at 175 to move up to Cruiserweight and challenge Opetaia. This content is protected Either match up is a pretty interesting one I wouldn't have even considered a year back. Between the possibilities of this and the winners of AJ-Ngannou and Usyk-Fury potentially facing off, plus those two anyways, Zhang-Parker and Opetaia-Briedis II, the year is already looking to hold some pretty solid fights in the upper weights. Normally I wouldn't get overly excited at just talk and propositions, especially this early on, but the Saudi oil money has got things done more often than not so far. Here's hoping that streak can keep on
Here we go, Jalolov will fight some bum like de mori and we have the hype train express calling out he’s the goat for all to hear.
