C'mon now. Roy gets sparked out cold in brutal fashion. The only question would be which way - face up or face down. Either way, he's going to take a long snooze.
Roy used insane reflexes, speed and an unusual style to overwhelm his opponents. However, even at his best, he did get hit as he wasn't super defensively minded. Roy would out box Beterbiev with speed and he would look amazing until he didn't. The grueling nature of Beterbievs looping punches will catch up with him. Most likely in the back of his head. Beterbiev wins this somewhere after seven in my opinion with Roy in the hospital after.
Did you see the force of those power jabs Beterbiev rammed into Smith's face the other day? Smith's face changed identity everytime they landed. Roy would've been sparked clean out by those, let alone a full-blooded right or left hand from Beterbiev. Roy can't win this fight. Beterbiev hits way too hard, is too intelligent, savvy, and well schooled not to be able to land with his bombs which he doesn't even telegraph, and he's too fit, strong and tough to get stopped by Roy. There's only two way this goes. He either sparks Roy out cold center ring with a jab or a straight right hand or left hook or he gets arrested for legal homicide as soon as he traps him on the ropes. It's genuinely scary envisaging what Artur would do to Roy on the ropes. It's actually making me feel a little queasy visualizing it. Beterbiev would stop everyone Roy fought at LHW and there's no goddamn way in hell Roy's chin is withstanding that hellish power. You can try and convince yourself he wins this fight and fortunately for you we will never know. However, if the boxing gods could wave their magic wand to make it possible the ring canvas would be covered in shards of Roy's glass and the Roy fan's clothing would be drenched in their tears. And you can take that to the bank and I don't mean the bottle bank full of that stuff Roy's chin is made out of either.
I think people judge Roy way too much on what happened in his later career. He faught for so long he effectively had two careers, one bad one good. When he first lost cleanly he was, what... 34? A speed and reflexes fighter going up and down in weight - at that age - meant he was finished after Tarver 1 (which he won, let's remember, while on the decline). It's like judging Ali on the Berbick loss, although Jones carried on far longer with those sub par performances. So I don't buy the glass jaw narrative. There was nothing until late in his career (as 'an old man' in boxing terms) to suggest that was the case. And even IF it wasn't granite when younger (which there is no evidence of, 1988 - 2003) he still had more than enough other attributes (speed, power, distance, timing etc) to comfortably cruise past good and great fighters, some of whom were much larger. Roy in the 90s and early 2000s was the best fighter I've ever seen. I remember reading a wonderful quote at the time which summed it up perfectly, along the lines of, 'you don't wonder whether he will win a fight or not - just how good he will look while doing it.' So, no, there are very few fighters - if any - I'd back to beat him in or around his weight classes, whoever the latest star may be.
Roy is chinny and Beterbiev relentless pressure would likely eventually lead him to getting hurt. However RJJ in his prime was one of the most physically and technically gifted fighters of all time and I think he demonstrated in his earlier years he could beat anyone on his day. I think prime for prime I would lean towards RJJ by late stoppage or UD, although Beterbiev could certainly catch him and stop him.
Roy Jones gets left in a state of rigor mortis. ROID Jones would stand a much better chance of pot shotting his way to a crooked decision, but would probably still end up ktfo. NOT that either Roy or ROID would've ever got in the ring with Beterbiev.
We see this all the time - fans being blinded by Roy's speed and athleticism. They never learn I'm telling you he's not knocking Beterbiev out and likewise he's not keeping him off of him for 12 rounds either. Beterbiev isn't just going to land at some point he's going to land at many points and there is just no way Roy's surviving that monstrous power. He's never fought anyone at LHW or below who can crack like Beterbiev, shots which don't even have to connect cleanly to completely discombobulatize your senses and he's never fought anyone period who cracks that hard whilst also being able to apply relentless pressure, both physically and mentally, for all 12 rounds with no respite. Master boxer Usyk found it difficult enough to keep Beterbiev off of him for 3 rounds, let alone fir 12 and he would send Roy to the shadow realm too. Everyone knows Roy's chicken bone jaw had a severe allergy to savage punchers. Hence why there's a serious dearth of them and legit bangers on his CV during his so called prime years You guys mus really hate Roy to wish Beterbiev's anvil fists on his glass jaw. He doesn't need enemies when he has fans like you This would be the ugliest and most brutal HL KO loss of Roy's career and it's not like the boxing gods haven't been extremely generous when it comes to treating us with plenty of those already.
Usyk is nowhere near as fast as Roy was. Fighters who were fast in their own right, like Toney, Reggie Johnson, and Virgil Hill had trouble landing on him. Beterbiev would look like he was moving in slow motion against Roy.
