I think Roy would beat everyone there without much issue until he reaches Plant, Benavidez and Canelo.

I think Plant loses a decision. Roy has better firepower and ring IQ but due to Plants better chin, good speed and defensive skills I think he would survive.

Benavidez would simply outfight him up close and at range, likely KO'ing the hell out of him once he does back him against the ropes given Roys chin can't withstand much punishment as Tarver showed. Likely an early KO for Benavidez once he discovers he can take Roys power and figures out his movement to back him against the ropes.

As for Canelo, I think its a situation where Roys lack of stopping power already spells the end of him before the fight begins because he's not going to hurt Canelo, not when stronger guys like Kovalev or Bivol had issues doing that. Outpointing Canelo with his better speed will work for a while until Canelo catches him between shots with something big.

Roy beats any of the SprMWs today. I swear, it's like some only remember the washed up version of RJJ. HIs chin was never cracked until he moved back down from HW to LtHW. We've all seen how moving down in weight too much can ruin a fighter.

This era sucks at 168, arguably the worst it's bean since it's inception. I don't even like RJJ, loved it when Tarver KO'ed him, but he dominates everyone now.

Plant has never impressed me, flashy style but you look beyond the flash his skills are not elite level.

Benavidez, I don't get the hype at all, he's the clear number 2 at the weight for sure but number two in a really sucky division.

Canelo, poor man's James Toney and we saw what RJJ did to Toney.

Honestly RJJ beats all 3 without getting out of first gear.

I got Roy in this one. Benavidez might possibly spark him out cold but I make Roy a favourite in that one as of now. Clenelo and Morrell might too to be fair. I think he definitely beats Plant though.

I don't think I'd pick any active SMW over Toney, Hopkins or Griffin in their primes. Roy beat all of them clearly.

Obviously Roy Jones Jr's body of work at LHW was his best era but I still think he was in his prime at SMW.

Jones would have ZERO problem with any of these three. He clearly stops Plant, likely stops Benavidez, and whitewashes Canelo on the scorecards. the gulf in speed, skill, and power is immense. Only Benavidez has the potential to even make the fight exciting for a while. But, the damage would begin to mount as the fight wore on.

"Roy's lack of stopping power?" You must be trolling. Jones hits significantly harder than any of these three. Roy might actually be the hardest punching super middleweight in history. He is certainly in the top 5.

I like Benavidez a lot. However, Prime Roy vs Benavidez plays out exactly like Roy vs Julio Gonzalez.

Prime Roy laying off the gas once the opponent grew gun shy is the inspiration behind Teddy Atlas’s quote about “silent agreements”, i.e., I won’t knock you out as long as you don’t try too hard.

No way can anybody seriously think that any of todays SMW have even a remote chance of beating a prime Jones .

Or Roy vs Sosa. Or some of the other guys that tried to swarm him and lasted like 2 rounds.

Roy was already sliding vs Gonzalez, hand issues, feet slowing down and less finishing agression.

Prime Roy Jones beats them all SMW's. This guy schooled prime Hopkins and Toney!

Canelo and Benavidez up against RJJ would be fun but RJJ was just on another level in his prime.

Beterbiev or Bivol would be tough fights but I still give prime RJJ the edge. RJJ was really that good, going up and down in weight hurt his body and career quite badly. I have no doubt in mind that prime RJJ would have schooled both Tarver and Johnson.
