His career was amazing. No one is going to match that for a long time.

I don’t rate him as highly head to head as some do. I think he was well managed after 130 to maximise his chances of being able to claim the 8 division champ moniker. But thats not really a knock on him or his management.

I thought he actually won the first JMM fight but not any of the subsequent.

Every fighter is overrated or underrated depending on who you ask.

I always thought Mayweather was the better fighter and would win their fight regardless of when it was fought. But having said that Pacquiao is the greater fighter and ranks higher simply because he isn't a Welterweight, he was a lightweight fighting much bigger men and still wrecking that division apart from Mayweather and his resume is just deeper. Yes he has losses but that happens when you fight the best again and again, sometimes back to back, you can't be 100% all the time when you are facing elite opposition that regularly.

To put it into context it would be like Mayweather moving up to middleweight losing to GGG and people saying GGG was the greater fighter when we all know Mayweather is greater than GGG, just GGG is bigger and therefore better.

That's the crazy thing about Pac's reign at 147. He was 148lbs in the ring vs Margarito he was in now way a natural welter and campaigned for years at the weight and usually won against elite opposition. Mayweather never dared to be that great to move up and campaign at 160lbs for years. Even RJJ who was called at times reluctant Roy had the desire and fearlessness to fight much bigger men, Mayweather never did that which is fine not everyone has too fight above their natural weight but when fighters do you have to recognise the uniqueness of that.

FYI, Mayweather is a legit five division champion.

I think he's is close but clearly superior to Floyd.

He was a legitimate champion of the world at Flyweight, Lightweight and Welterweight, plus some other divisions in between.

I'd have favoured prime PAC to beat Floyd had he got the fight at the very peak of his powers.

Never said he wasn't but he grew out of those previous divisions to fight at his natural weight. Remember when he failed weight vs Marquez, he was a natural welter not a lightweight seeking tougher fights by moving up like Pac or even JMM.

I always considered Pacquiao a natural JrWW, and Mayweather a small WW.

Pacquiao is muscular, and his legs are huge, while Mayweather despite having freakishly long arms and big shoulders, is rather slim.

No he is not. He has done something special and his attitude is one of a kind.

Maybe nearer the end of his career he grew into a Jr WW but most of those earlier fights with the likes of Cotto, Margarito, Mosley etc he could of still comfortably made 135 based on his in ring weights.

Well he was weighing in at WW on fight night when he was at 130 and 135.

Yeah but many lightweights rehydrate more than 5lbs to bring them up to WW, some even rehydrate above 147 to LM.

Pacquiao last fight against Diaz he hydrated back up to 147 so a gain of 12lbs, while Diaz hydrated back up to 148lbs. So Pac no bigger at lightweight than the rest of the division and when he did move to WW he was basically weighing in without losing much water weight.

But I'll admit Mayweather did this too early at 147, he was basically fighting at his walk around weight but unlike Pac he grew into a natural WW which is why he refused the unofficial 2nd weigh ins later in his career.

A 5'5 fighter who is getting hurt by midgets at women's boxing weight, then bashing up 5'9/5'10 LMW size experienced top fighters like Horn/Algieri/Margarito ... yeah, it's simply not physically believable naturally speaking. Absolute PED experiment, his whole career.

The Hatton victory is also corrupted by the fact Hatton was getting trained by that idiot Mayweather. And yeah, another ridiculous 'natural' KO against a guy who walked through Tzyu's punches all night.

The only funny thing is that Marquez clearly worked out the PED problem and PED-d him back with magical stopping power he clearly lacked the fights before.

    Thurman fight was highly suspicious.

Just about every 3rd thread descends into some Pacman and Mayweather back and forth with the obvious fans from both sides, do we really need more bait to it?

All i will say on this, is if we say that EITHER Floyd or Pacman are overrated, then I pity the bar current boxers have to reach to be 'rated'.

I have both somewhere between 20 & 15 in my ATG lists - nuff said, when talkin about who is better / greater in those echelons, it's literal bawhors difference and not really worth sweating over.

    Both were awesome IMO
