Off balance knockdown at the end of the round and getting dropped several times and stopped in the following round isn't exactly what I would call having someone in trouble.
Then we fundamentally can't agree. Beterbiev won't have success at Cruiserweight because he won't even move there, let alone heavyweight. There is nothing on his pro record that suggests he beats any semi decent heavyweight like John Ruiz or even Herbie Hide and this era being relatively weak makes it worse
I enjoyed watching Roy Jones Jr and his win over James Toney is better than anything Beterbiev has done so far. Now that said, I can't see Roy making it 12 against Beterbiev. I think to beat Beterbiev you need durability, something Jones lacked big time. Also, anyone saying Jones was shot when/after fighting Tarver, Jones was only 35 years old. He was younger than Beterbiev is right now. Your punch resistance doesn't go in your 30s. Obviously, Jones never had a good chin. He wasn't shot and then it turned to glass. It was always shaky, it was just that Jones had otherworldly speed that was able to cover it up.
Callum Johnson dropped him too, Beterbiev being this indestructible, invincible, wrecking ball is disingenuous and recency bias. Roy Jones in his prime, would possibly stop Beterbiev. Beterbiev is an accumulative puncher, he’s not knocking guys out unconscious like Julian Jackson. Yarde, Gvodyk, Browne, gave Beterbiev issues and they are not in the same stratosphere of talent or skill level of PRIME LHW ROY.
Context matters, Roy Jones dropped too much weight and should’ve campaigned at Cruiserweight instead. He should’ve never came back down to light heavyweight, he should’ve grab some belts at cruiserweight and retired. Roy Jones miscalculated his abilities and was taught a hard lesson.
20-0 - 100% KO ratio. He's a wrecking ball who matches up very well h2h with the heroes who you bestow with comic book hero like qualities because you wear rose tinted glasses. Roid Jones Jr beat up tiny blown up MWS and bin min at LHW then got his glass jaw obliterated by Tarver at 35 years old. Was never the same even though he never took much damage in his career.
Roy was dropped by Lou Del Valle and KTFO by non-punchers Tarver and Johnson. He could beat Beterbiev but he would need to fight a perfect fight.
That is a misconception. Name me another fighter who dropped weight and then instantly their punch resistance went away. Jones moved up to Cruiserweight to only get KTFO a bunch more times by guys like Danny Green and Enzo M. If it was weight that was an issue, why'd he also get knocked out at Cruiser?
We are referencing PRIME ROY, Beterbiev is 39 with 20 fights, Roy had 60 something fights at Beterbiev’s age now. Imagine if Roy would’ve retired after the Ruiz win? Beterbiev isn’t even a Julian Jackson, or Gerald McClellan, he’s an accumulative puncher, that wears his opponents down. Beterbiev is a great fighter, but he’s not this invincible and indestructible force, he’s becoming mythological at this point.
Okay, so Roy was shot at 29 when Lou Del Valle dropped him and was shot at 35/36 when Tarver/Johnson knocked him out. Beterbiev is older than Jones RIGHT NOW when those knockouts occurred. Is Beterbiev in his prime too at 39? Is this the version you are putting against whatever version of RJJ you think was in his prime?
Lomachenko was dropped by Linares and Nonito Donaire Broke inoue’s orbital bone, Kostya Tszyu was stopped by Vince Phillips. It’s boxing anything can happen, but Beterbiev is being overrated now. Beterbiev punching power is attritional and accumulative, he’s not rendering anybody unconscious. Stylistically Roy would give Beterbiev too many problems.
Callum Johnson and Jeff Page dropped Beterbiev, he’s not infallible. Also, Lou Del Valle was 27-1 (19 KO) when he fought Roy, which means he can PUNCH, he wasn’t pillow fisted, like you’re insinuating. Ironically, Beterbiev actually is in his prime, 29 year Beterbiev vs 29 year old Roy would get stopped in 4 rounds.
