It could very well be. For some reason I feel like Canelo is in fact letting this one marinate and collecting easy money in the mean time.. Everyone is saying he's on the downside of his career, and he may be accepting it, so take the easy money and save the best for last.
I believe he would be stripped of one or more of his belts if he does not fight Benavidez by September.
I know you would prefer Munguia tho which is a better fight than Jermall who didn't really look that good his last fight.
I could see Jermall and Benavidez this year, who are both PBC fighters. Both are undefeated as well. If Canelo retains 2x, then he would be through the PBC deal, and then there would be an appetite for a fight with Crawford or Munguia in 2025. Another possibility in 2025 (if he wins or loses vs Benavidez) would be to challenge the winner of Bivol and Beterbiev, either at LHW vs Beterbiev or vs Bivol at 168 if he beats Benavidez and if Bivol beats Beterbiev.
It might be Munguia after Charlo..or Berlanga. Munguia being the safer fight . Then in 2025 it will be Benavidez
I disagree. I do not think he'll vacate under any circumstances. His Undisputed status is on the line. He is currently in the midst of a record setting reign. No one has ever defended 4-belt Undisputed as many times as Canelo has. I think he knows he has to risk it all against Benavidez this year and there's no way around it. It's a big risk, but he knows it's a risk he has to take, to dispatch the Monster would be a legacy defining win for him. I personally would be very disappointed and critical of him if he does not fight Benavidez this year, if he vacates any of his titles, that would be seen as a duck.
Morrell is the WBA interim, while Benavidez is the WBC interim. Realistically he should fight both this year, though I'd imagine the WBA may not threaten to strip him for not fighting Morrell as quickly as the WBC would for not fighting Benavidez. Also Morrell doesn't seem to be in any rush to challenge Canelo, while Benavidez is clearly pushing hard for that fight. I personally would like to see Morrell fight Benavidez first, however that's obviously a risk to the Canelo payday for both. And at this point, I don't believe Benavidez or Morrell need to prove themselves against each other, I think they both have put themselves into position for the Canelo fight. But obviously the public wants to see Benavidez fight Canelo more than they want to see Morrell fight Canelo, so if he's only going to fight one of them this year, it should Benavidez, to satisfy public demand. If Canelo doesn't fight Benavidez by September, the public is not going to be happy with Canelo, whether he gets stripped or not.
Golovkin is not a household name in any way. “Household name” has meaning, you just made up your own. And it’s wrong.
He was at the time, especially in SoCal where he fought several times in the mid 2010s. He was very popular in that area before he fought Canelo.
I would consider it he finally stopped ducking Benavidez. You think if you eventually fight someone it means you never ducked them previously? lol. I am still waiting for Canelo to say he is fighting Benavidez in Sept, rather than just his fan boys saying it.
How is not fighting him until 2025 not a duck? What do you think a duck is? I'm pretty sure its just avoiding the toughest fight at the front of the line and choosing easier fights.
I wouldn't see it as a duck so as long as he eventually fights him. In fact, I wouldn't see it as a duck if he decided to move up in 2025 and fight the winner of Bivol-Beterbiev. Just my opinion
According to your logic if you avoided someone for 10 years and fought them when they are past their prime it means you never ducked them. Or waited until they could not make the weight anymore. Your opinion is illogical. Ducking is not a difficult concept to understand.
