The fact Roy won just a MD should be an indicator of his drop. Tarver really was nothing special. Jones moving back downin weight was his biggest mistake.

Yes, the effects of the weight cut were cumulative and exacerbated by getting his dehydrated body punched on for twelve rounds. He managed to regain some physicality and quickness in the second fight, but his punch resistance was already gone and he went bye bye as soon as he was touched.

You are confusing having a weak chin with having severely diminished resistance to blunt trauma. Roy had a solid enough chin, and that allowed him to take the chances he often did. No man with a weak chin ignores basic defensive fundamentals the way he did, to that degree of success.

 

People on here are acting like Tarver had Julian Jackson level power in order to KO Jones. I wouldn't say he was nothing special, more like a really solid pro. Nothing special would be like a journeymen, Tarver definitely wasn't that.

 

Jones looked bad but Tarver wasn't able to KTFO. If it was the weight, Tarver should have been able to hurt him or drop him. It wasn't the weight, it was the fact that Jones was slowing down. Once he started to get tagged, his chin revealed itself.

And you're wrong, his fundamentals were awful but he had otherworldly speed. He rarely got hit on the chin. Plus some of his opponents were bin-men and security guards. Jones was able to beat those level guys even after he was getting bounced off the canvas.

His chin might not have been glass but it wasn't a solid chin either. You don't just lose punch resistance out of nowhere, he never had great punch resistance to begin with. His talent when he was younger just covered it up.

This. The guy never had punch resistance to begin with especially when his chin was undamaged at the point of the Tarver fight. When Roy began to slow down he looked beatable and became beatable. Tarver simply had the courage to expose a weakness that was always there.

Jones was a phenom, but he didn't possess an iron chin. This is common knowledge; I don't know why you are arguing otherwise.

 

So why would you think someone like Beterbiev would be able to hit him clean in his prime? because he beat up Callum Smith? He is not even a 1 punch KO artist.

 

He got clipped by a heavyweight John Ruiz, who was nothing special but had a very solid right hand. He managed to take the shot without folding like a lawn chair.

Roy would have been considered top 5 GOAT had he just retired after Ruiz, but now he gets **** on by people like you.
