Charles martin is indeed also a favourite to win the contest in this thread .

Both he and usyk have only one top 10 opponent in their career but martin has at least way more (34) hw fights on record.

Usyk,s point is he won with aj and martin lost

But you cannot always triangulate fights and count a loss as a pure weakness since legends like ali or holyfield also counted several losses and you can otherwise use a simple tactic :

when you do not fight you cannot loose .

Is muhammed ali the weakest champion ever ?

Whatever - when we want to discuss this on a bit higher level than the fanboy-spectator level we need to take facts : the amount of fights , the strenght level of the opponents ( not subjective but based on world ranking )

i know it sounds strange but when we stay on facts usyk today is truly a big favourite to be the weakest champion in history with his current legacy of 5 pro hw fights with just one top 10 opponent in his entire hw record , head on head with athletes like charles martin .

The character AJ beat to become champion was the worst in recent times. Not only did he only win with Glazkov doing his knee early in the fight, that fight only happened because Duva pulled strings and got Fury stripped in a few weeks, releasing that belt. The whole thing was a joke.

The worst 'star' champion would be AJ. Not only did he beat a fraud to win the title, basically all his top wins were opponents around 40 years old and he's been protected more than anyone, including Wilder, his recent run since Usyk being ultimate proof of this. On two cards in a row now he will be taking the least threatening opponent while other contenders fight the highly ranked ones.

It's also important to remember that Usyk was considered to be struggling at HW when AJ made the fight, with people even saying Chisora beat him or could in a rematch. AJ and his team thought they had all the advantages, that's why they took it. Quite a bit different from Fury taking the fight after Usyk has proven himself at HW.

Are we talking belt holders or champions?

Leon Spinks if we are talking champions.

Martin is probably the worst in my lifetime. It's hard to top winning a belt because the other guy got injured (not even an injury caused by anything you were doing, just a random knee dislocation when he stepped in to throw a shot) and then getting bombed out in two rounds by some green prospect in your very next fight. I mean he's sort of risen a bit in my estimation following his gutsy performances against Polish Sausage and Old Man River (not that they were any good TBF) and a win over the mediocre but not utterly terrible Washington, but that doesn't erase the fact that he's still pretty effing shyte and throws punches like an aerobics instructor from the 90s.

Stiverne is awful as well, but in his prime he had some skills and gave Wilder his hardest fight to that point, so I'll give him points for effort.

    Very short hop here to:

When you do not fight contenders, you do not lose.

    Eg: Wilder.

So by your logic, is Wilder one of the worst ever??

Charles Martin has to be high on the list, if not at the very top. I know it might be recency bias, but the guy only got his belt because the other dude ****ed his knee up bad enough that it was the end of his career. Martin didn't even win his title because of anything he did, then he turns right around and rolls over in his first defense. Stiverne's pretty bad too, but at least he won his belt with a genuine stoppage and tried defending it. That said though, Martin has easily had the better performances since being champion, so if we're considering more than just their time holding the belts that might even them out a little bit.

John Ruiz. Only HW champion to lose his title twice to former middleweights.

KO'ing Tommy Morrison in one is far better than anything Charles Martin did.

The gap between light HW and Heavyweight back then wasn't so big. We're talking about the pre roids era then. As we all know all boxers have been on gear since the 60's. Now there's probably 100lbs difference in those weight classes.

I gave you facts , you give me your emotions and wishes.

What hw champion at the time being had less total fights than usyk AND faced so few top 10 opponents on his entire record ?

When you want to talk about physical strenght or if usyk would beat e.g martin or not we drift to personal guesses and wishes and not a facts based discussion .

Seeing you even try to personally insult me shows you too are just a small and poor fanboy and your entire question should be treated at a fanboy level . I overestimated you , sorry .

By your logic, RJJ was by far the worst HW champions of the world and David Haye was the second worst. Jones had only 1 win at HW and Haye had only 1 win over top 10 HW that was over much worse fighter (Valuev) than Usyk's 2 best wins at HW (Joshua)
