If Golovkin got proper decisions over Canelo in first two fights.

I'm sure he would have beaten Ward which is why Droopy Dawg made sure to swerve him like the plague.

I will always remember Bivol vs Canelo, I bet 1000€ to make 4000€ if Bivol wins, and even convinced couple of my friends to bet too. I was screaming at the TV to not rob Bivol.

Boxing is the only sport where you have to really be anxious even when your bet clearly should win.

Since I respect you as a poster, I'll bother to respond in full detail. I agree in part but I do feel that some context could be helpful:

Young GGG was pretty desperate to get fights against anyone decent but really struggled, partially due a terrible promoter. He even, e.g. agreed to fight Darren Barker for free but Barker pulled out; he signed to fight Pirog (who may have beaten him) and Pirog got injured.

It was the young GGG who was ducked and got a reputation as an avoided fighter, I'll mention a few others who avoided fighting him:
    - Felix Sturm (GGG was his mandatory, but Sturm shared the same promoter and used that to avoid him).
    - Peter Quillin (asked for a completely ridiculous amount of money, thus pricing himself out).

Others avoided the fight and in some cases (e.g. Sam Soliman) openly admitted it was because GGG was too good. The truth is that the division was pretty poor, those are not good names and a HOF talent like GGG was just another level above Soliman, Quillin, Geale etc.

In hindsight, GGG perhaps could have tried to go to 168 to get some good names there, but a) he believe that getting a world title was his ticket to big fights, b) his promoter promised him the Sturm fight for years c) he still might have had trouble landing good names at 168 lb - who would want to risk fighting an unknown monstrous puncher from the weight below; very little credit even if the 168lb-er won, d) from mid career onwards an eventual Canelo fight was on the radar making a move upwards less appealing.

As GGG got older and became more of a star, he started to think more about money. He was still openly ducked by some, e.g. Billy Joe Saunders wouldn't fight him in a unification and admitted that this was because GGG was too good.

GGG did however want the Froch fight and it was Froch who opted against it. I don't hold that against Froch btw, he was already old and had just signed off in the perfect way by KO-ing Groves. It would have been an intriguing fight, but my feeling is that Froch was too old by then and would have got KO'ed despite his toughness and heart. I would have rooted for Froch for sure though.

GGG was okay to fight Ward but not super keen, they both actually negotiated with HBO about the weight and split and ended some 10% apart blaming each other. Ward retired for the first time after these negotiations failed. I personally think GGG may well have lost this one, especially if not at a catch weight, and that would have reduced the value of the Canelo super fight which was already on the horizon.

Ward was also not super keen by the way, he's a smart man and even though he thought he would win he knew he would take punishment. People will tell me (correctly) that Kovalev punches harder but by then Ward didn't have a choice - he couldn't make 168 any more.

After the first two Canelo fights GGG fought a one really good fighter in Derevyancheko (Murata is okay but tailor-made nonetheless), realized he wasn't so good anymore, and in the last few years GGG has been all about the money, either inactive, knocking over cans, and signing for a trilogy fight vs Canelo he knew he couldn't really win.

Back to the OP - if GGG had been given the first two decisions, I don't think things would have changed that much except he would have got more money. I don't see him going for new challenges at other weights (168 was a wasteland by then) and he'd still have fought Canelo a third and perhaps fourth time and eventually lost to the younger man. Probably he also fights Murata somewhere in-between.

Well he might have been given favorable decisions against Sergiy Derevyanchenko and maybe Danny Jacobs so it kind of evens out.

If Canelo had lost, this thread would be, what would Canelo's career have been if he hadn't been robbed. Canelopes, would be saying he would have been the greatest Mexican Warrior, ATG at Middleweight etc. LOL

    I was mildly trolling brother
I respect you too and I read your full post and you make a great case to be honest

It is a game of two halves in all honesty. He was definitely heavy avoided early on, but he could have made the jump imo later on,instead of chasing fights with mayweather at 154 for an example

I personally don't think he would have beaten Ward [will never know for certain], but I would have loved to see him fight Froch and kessler for example

Bivol didn't just beat Canelo he schooled him Totally embarrassed him. Which was good because even Canelo's friendly judges dare not stretch so far as to give him a draw. They almost did scoring it 115-113 to Bivol while realistically it should have been at least 118-110 to Bivol. Glad you won your Money

Someone should have told that to all the title challengers that coveted that belt before becoming good boys. Who was the supposed super champ, the one running for his life from GGG before getting dethroned by Geale?

You got that right. GGG won two Super Bowls until the corrupt score cards got read. It's bazaar to witness.

I wouldn't say that necessarily, because people have eyes and can see what happend, but it would have nice for it to be celebrated for what it was, Two hard fought wins with all the spoils he trully deserved. No controversy necessary. Afterward, Canelo goes on his way to his greatness.

Well, GGG had five more fights after the 2nd Canelo fight, so are you saying in addition to those five fights? Or higher quality fights? I thought the Derevyanchenko fight was a top fight and the Murata fight was a tough Barn burner as well. Rolls and Szeremeta were assentially tune ups, although Rolls gave Berlanga all he could handle. Obviously the trilogy fight was huge.

Canelo would end up like Fernando Vargas, fighting the best and then losing fights.

His fanatics would exalt him beyond Monzon, SRR, Hagler, Lamotta, Greb as the greatest MW ever. Had he beaten Canelo twice he would probably end up moving to actually possibly fight Ward and would've lost. I think Ward would've actually postponed his retirement and dropped down for a fight with Golovkin.

You know he never chased Mayweather. He was simply asked by a reporter if he'd fight Floyd. He said he would, that was basically yhe end of it. That fight just took a whole life of it's own on the board w/ Floyd fanboys freaking out. Hence why they all hate 3G now.
