Not everyone has the same ability to rehydrate. Some can rehydrate more pounds, some less.
And IMO this is helped by chemicals.

Day of fight weigh in stops all this nonsense. I suppose that's why it will never happen

    It's ****, but it's what it is.

Should have same day weigh in imo, but as it is as they have a 24 hour weigh in so as long as you can make the weight that's all that matters.

Every boxer now enters the ring in the next weight class, sometimes two weight classes above. Craziness.

Canelo was a quarter pound short of being 3 classes above (SWW - LHW). So I think there are 3 classes inad; many.
I don't agree with that either - but it is what it is.

Aren't the weigh-ins often in the afternoon the day before, giving them about 30 hours?

Great question. First of all, these guys kill themselves to cut weight, mainly by not drinking liquids. I can recall a Mayweather weighin after which Floyd started drinking bottle after bottle of water. So I'd say water has a lot to do with the bulking up as it was a reason for losing pounds. I'm thinking their bodies are dry sponges pre-weigh in and afterwards swell up with water.

I know, but even his opponent weighed in above the MW limit.

    It's insane all around.

Hopkins used to get a lot of **** for bullying smaller men but he was usually under 170 on fight night. FFS, he was 168 for his title defense vs Taylor...at the age of 40.

While we don't agree on many fronts, this is great post, and i 100% agree with. What is the idea of the weight classes, when people are abusing the rule by a country mile ? And there is million examples for that.

Some people just don't want to go to absolutes and/or are unable to cut and then gain back so much weight, and are put into massive disadvantage cause of that.
Weight in should be on fight night, and people should actually fight in their natural class, not using tricks to fight in lower classes and on fight night, weight in for 3x class higher.

Boxing is filled with hypocrisy and double standards. Orlando Salido rehydrated to 147 pounds against Lomachenko and that has been attributed to him losing the fight. Devin Haney rehydrated to 165 pounds against Regis Prograis, which is probably closer to 170+, since the weigh in was in the morning. Devin Haney also, rehydrated to about 155 pounds against Lomachenko, with Lomachenko snidely remarking that Haney was a Heavyweight. All of these are attributed to Lomachenko losing because he was at a massive size disadvantage against naturally bigger and stronger opponents. Tank uses rehydration clauses against weight bullies, that are afraid of competing in their natural weight classes and he’s called a coward, who is afraid of “competition”. Who are the cowards though? A man rehydrating 21 pounds, to fight at featherweight? Or the man that moved up 3 division’s and is still at a size deficit against opponents who are afraid to fight in their natural divisions?

No ****ing way did skinny ass Haney rehydrate over 30 lbs or even close to 30.
Go and try to sweat off 10 and you can see how wrong you are.

It's not just pro boxing. A friend of ours had a daughter who fought in martial arts fights, I forget which kind, karate or judo or whatever.
She was very small, but she constantly had to fight much larger girls who great massively just before the bout.

This modern rehydration stuff helps make it somewhat difficult for me to take weight classes below Heavyweight as seriously as I probably should. It is ridiculous in my view.

'' Weight Bullying '' is bs imo.

If you make weight you make weight simple as that. You don't take into consideration the work they do to get there. Do you know how ****ing that is if you weigh 80 kilos for example and you have to weigh in at 70? The amount of work, stress that you put yourself under. That's huge. Even if it's just fluid loss, it's still ****ing hard and stressful.

Let's say you run 10k's, you can lose about 2 kilos. But you have to do the ten k's properly. It's not just a case of running those 10's over 4 hours. Even if you did your energy is still going to deplete and you've wasted time, time being up. Your body and mind. That's just ten k's. And you're going to get hungry and need to eat. If you don't, your mind is going to go ****ed and your body is going to go ****ed and deplete as well as your CNS.

If you do it the slow way over time you're still going to suffer being in a calorie deficit. You won't be able to train at your best and to your full capacity. Credit to them for making weight as it's very hard to do. Especially as you get older. You can do stuff and get away with certain things and methods sometimes. But they will fail also. Hence you're going to see Tszyu move up in weight and he's even said it himself. Many fighters do.

Additionally staying at weight that isn't natural ****s up your testosterone amongst other things. Not good for the body or mind. Or spirit.

Zac Effron can tell you about this. It led to insomnia which led to depression and all sorts of things. There's too much nit picking and crying and trying to take away people's hard work. That's easy to do.

TBH, That's what the weak do.
