It certainly is pathetic. I have been accused of being a supporter of the older Fighters and having Rose tinted glasses, but without a doubt, boxing has sunk to an all-time low. In many ways it's really not even the same sport anymore. All one has to do is watch the old fights. To me, there is an obvious difference in skill levels between yesterday and today. Usyk for example, is by far the best boxer in heavyweight division, but overall compared with the past greats, I would say he is a good boxer and nothing more.
Ngannou has a power edge, possibly, and maybe a chin edge. Wlad beats him in every other metric. It doesn't matter if you have the hardest punch in the world if you can't land it and the guy with the 5th hardest punch in the world can land his every time. Fury really did us a disservice by stinking out the room against a guy like Ngannou.
Ngannou is glorified for no reason because of Fury's bad performance and his punch is overrated in boxing, Fury successfully got up and fought to the end, namely boxers have better chin than MMA fighters because Boxing is a stand up sport and only fists are used, while in MMA there is fight in the ground floor...
One of the 10-15 hardest hitters in HW history against a novice that doesn't defend properly? oh ok...............
Fury fooled around in there, Wladimir would KO him in 3 rounds. That jab right hand would be too much
Thing is people can say what they want Punching power, reflexes etc are all quite natural attributes. N'Gannou nearly took Overeem's head off early in the fight as well. Overeem is a world class kick boxer. Ngannou also demolished Stipe with boxing, Stipe was a state golden gloves champion. Normal area title level boxers couldn't demolished fighters like that in a straight up boxing match imo. N'Gannou isn't a particularly good kicker either.
I would like to see the clinch attempt against Ngannou the same as against Povetkin. Because I don't like it when an athlete acts unsportsmanlike.
Overeem and Stipe were both washed up, past their primes, old, not the same fighters anymore. Also how many times has old Overeem been knocked out?
