Deontay Wilder - Will he make the Hall of Fame? (Video)

He's had alot of title defenses and was the biggest American heavyweight name in boxing in the last decade. Id say yes, though that would definitely be an unpopular opinion on here.

He didnt do enough to make the HOF. His stats are impressive but his opposition was sub par at best. He lost every fight against world class opposition which is not the same as what the US media pretends in world class opposition for promotional purposes

I like him as a fighter, hes exciting to watch but the skills just are not there and he has no wins against actual top fighters. I just dont see how that makes it to the HOF

I agree completely Rummy, his reign does leave a lot to be desired, as does his resume as a whole, but I think he's probably getting in just going by his career as it currently stands. As you pointed out, he's a long reigning champion with ten straight defenses, and all but one of his wins came within the distance. Opposition wasn't the baddest of the bad or the best of the best by any means, but a high knockout percentage like that prolly looks pretty appealing to the voters. Plus on top of that, he was the first American heavyweight champion in nearly a decade, which certainly wins him brownie points in the considerations, justly so or not. It also helps that his only losses have come against Fury, a guy who is regarded as the best or second best of this generation, and Parker, a former champion who was ranked by all the organizations at the time and was coming off an especially productive year.

Now whether he deserves it or not, that's another issue that'll probably always be debated. But I think those facts will be enough to sway the voters to induct him when the time comes.

Also I gotta say, the "full disclose" bit caught me off guard and made me laugh my ass off. I needed a good laugh like that tonight

 

Nope. His best wins are Monte Barret and Malik Scott and he was 10 years past his best when he fought Wilder. He was a good B grade fighter but never a top fighter outside of US media promotion and those that believe that horse****. He was a gifted amateur and probably could have done better if he started fighting serious opposition earlier instead of fighting for money

IMO - yes.
Wilder has knocked down or knocked out everyone he has stepped into the ring with except Parker (except in the last fight of his career?)
Wilder has 10 title defenses (I know, but that's the stats).
Wilder is an American, and that IMO has an impact.
Wilder is currently on the TOP 10 HW list for 531 weeks, the most of anyone currently; 101 weeks more than Anthony Joshua.

Nobody in the boxing world questions wilders achievements after 47 pro hw fights , an imoressive ko rate , being wbc champion for 5 years and having 10 successful title defenses .

So of course he will enter the HOF

 

He’ll get it, unpopular to many as it may be. The Fury trilogy was iconic and his power is phenomenal. He has also has always been a massive character and with 10 title defences I think he will do it.

I maintain though he is not a great heavyweight fighter, like Lewis, Holyfield, Wlad Klitschko, Ali, Foreman etc. I think his 10 title defences are the weakest of any long reigning heavyweight champion and he lost every time he stepped up. I would not consider a win over an old Ortiz and a draw with a half fit Fury to be comparable to the past greats.

Still, a very good fighter who helped bring excitement back to the heavyweight division. For that, he has my respect and I think has gained him a place in the HOF.

The champion part and the 10 title defenses are BS.

If Wilder was from Uzbekhistan or Africa with the exact same resumee, he would not never have been champion, and nobody would talk about him and the hall of Fame. He has benefited greatly from the wasteland that is American HW boxing.

What would he be in the 80s/90s? probably like a Gerry Cooney who for different reasons got an equally undeserved boost to his name, but boxing wasnt "soft" enough back then to allow a fraud to keep a part of the title Hostage for 5 years with that kind of pathetic opposition.


1 top 10 scalp which is questionable, because Ortiz built his reputation before he got caught for PEDs and the rest is filler.

3 losses against fury. Thats his entire career.
