Overeem was coming off a win over Werdum, had a win over Palovich couple of fights after. Hardly washed up but his chin was probably gone to be fair.
I think we should see how far Francis goes. I would like to see this thread post Aj vs Ngannou and see if opinions have changed if he were to win.
An aging and ill motivated Wlad lost a stinker to prime Fury. A prime, game Wlad would've beaten any version of Fury very clearly, IMHO. Indeed - and there's more to it than just one punch power... The effectiveness of a power shot can vary significantly depending on timing, for example - and heavy combinations might lack the outright power of a single wild swing whilst being at least as likely to result in a knockout. Maybe on some level the value placed on how hard a crude swing a fighter had is natural right now given how highly rated Wilder was on just that basis? Francis probably could hit a punching machine about as hard as Povetkin or Joshua... But can he time it like Pov? Or string together murderous combos like Joshua? No, he can't and no, he can't. Basically yep - Wlad would control the fight with his stiff jab, land some heavy rights and then IF Francis was still standing, he'd go back to jabbing and either force a stoppage or win so wide on points that it would never be remotely in question. He'd make Ngannou look as basic with just jabs as Joyce made Dubois look.
It might be another Sam Peter type fight where the musclebound African makes things physical and rough but the disparity in ring IQ, skill and experience would be too much.
The same Wlad gave Joshua hell two years of inactivity later, he was still a good fighter and imo it was an excellent performance from Fury. Agreed on the rest, the thread is silly and Ngannou would stand no chance. All this talk about power fails to mention technique, to which Wlad is levels above Francis. He can deliver his power far more effectively.
Not really the same Wlad, IMHO - an older, but more motivated and aggressive Wlad... In certain ways lesser and in others definitely not. It was a very good performance from Fury in the sense that he came in with a gameplan and executed it very well - it was still a stinker of a fight, though. Absolutely so
Probably Wlad wins. But there's something I can't get out of my head here, which is that Fury toyed with 4/1 favourite Wlad and lowered his stock enormously at the time. If you go back to a Rummy's Corner video, the loss is portrayed as Wlad's worst career loss, worse than the Sanders fight. A "humiliating schooling" and "arguably 12-0" is how it was described. We can apply context on both sides but the difference in level is probably far smaller than most are pretending. I have no doubt that Ngannou is a much better boxer (especially with the element of surprise and so forth) than at least several of Wlad's title opponents. And Wlad didn't take an especially good punch, while depending a lot on wrestling moves.
Can you dig into your “boxing journals” and elaborate more on how there is a small difference in levels between Ngannou and Wlad and how Ngannou is a better boxer than several of Wlads title challengers? “But there's something I can't get out of my head here, which is that Fury toyed”…………. No surprise there, you probably had to have a few underwear changes because of that.
Ngannou's only hope is to go wild the first few rounds. But he would get caught himself and put in a coma. Wlad is not that great imo. His fight vs ****ing Samuel Peter was an edge of your seat type of fight where he looked vulnerable the whole fight. Peter was **** but Peter >>> Ngannou.
