I don’t think so even at near his worst Ron’s just too easy to hit and Tyson was too smart for Lyle even as a ghost.
I can see Lyle *maybe* beating 2002 and onward Tyson. Peak Tyson obliterates Lyle and '90s Tyson busts him up too, just not as spectacularly. What is with all this Ron Lyle adulation?
Wait until 2030. The way that Ron Lyle has been improving in the last 3 or 4 years, in another 6 years he will be favored over everybody except "prime Ali" and "young Foreman."
There comes a point were Postman Pat beats Mike Tyson. Obviously that would be after the McBride fight, but it was probably coming. Perhaps the great champions, who retire when they realize that they will never be teh champion again, have got it spot on?
By 2040, Lyle's name will take the place of Sonny Liston when it comes to the standard to which heavyweight boxer-punchers will be held.
I'm not sure the Mike who beat up Bruno in the second fight could beat prime Lyle. Lyle, unlike Ruddock, had a decent idea of how to box. He flustered Ali more than a little during their match (and hey, it hadn't been too long after perhaps Ali's greatest victory over George that they fought, so Ali was far from chopped liver at the time). True, Ron let himself be seduced into caveman mode with Foreman, but I'm not sure he'd do that with the latter-era Mike. Look at how much Mike got hit against Ruddock, Lyle hit seriously hard with both fists, and he knew how to be more evasive. All this said, it's so much easier to envision the 80s/early 90s Mike getting rocked bad but ultimately kicking the crap out of Ron in 7 at the latest lol. But second title-winning Mike falls in 8. To raise some hackles here (hee-hee), I'm not sure that particular Mike beats the best of old man George.
There’s an economy to all this Grey but perhaps- Foreman might be just below Sonny Liston soon, That is if enough newcomers see George say “He was the only man to back me up” enough times (his greatest feat I’ve come to understand) which sadly might keep Ronnie out of the top 3 Forum fighters but we’ll see, keep an eye on how many highlight videos are made in the coming years then place your bet.
The most hotly debated fantasy fight in a few years' time will be the epic Ron Lyle vs. Cleveland Williams bout. It'll shake this forum up more than Tyson vs. Foreman and Ali vs. Louis combined.
I don’t know what it is with Ron Lyle and folks on this forum. I really don’t. I would struggle to have him at the low end of the top 50 all-time heavyweights but people here just adore the guy.
Yeah, give or take a couple of years. If he didnt get you out early, he would get disheartened. I mean Frans Botha was giving Tyson a lesson til he got KO'd(I know, if my aunt had balls etc etc)
