How would Briggs cope and survive in this fight?

Lyle is just all around better and more proven fighter. Definitely a firework of a bout though. The Cannon could crack.

Lyle (slugger/boxer puncher) vs Briggs (slugger)

    Power: Briggs
    Speed: Briggs
    Chin: Briggs
    Footwork: Lyle
    Punch selection: Lyle
    Technique: Lyle
    Body punching: Briggs
    Timing: Briggs
    Accuracy: Lyle
    Stamina: Lyle
    Ring IQ: Even
    Defense: Lyle
    Heart: Lyle
    Finishing ability: Briggs

    7-1-6 advantage Lyle.

In this match up there probably wouldn't be much of a feel out process as Briggs loved to start fast and Lyle was more than happy to oblige aggressive fighters ring center. Both were fond of body punching and setting guys up for big rights hands so it would quickly become a tense game of who can land the bigger bombs.

Briggs hit a little harder and was more durable, but had worse defense and stamina so it sort of cancels out. I think Lyle would be landing the cleaner shots, Briggs the harder ones. Both men would probably be drained by the 7th after a brutal pace launching bombs at each other and trading knockdowns.

Conclusion: a badly hurt and exhausted Lyle manages to drown Briggs sometime in the 8th-9th round slightly ahead on the cards winning by KO. However, anything could happen and I only slightly favor Lyle to win 55-45 or so due to his advantages in technique and overall endurance.

I agree with all of those except for speed. Briggs in his prime had really quick hands, especially when you consider his size. Lyle's speed never impressed me.

While I do find Lyle overrated, he really should win this. Briggs just wasn’t very good.

You know what, you're right. I think Lennox even said Briggs surprised him with his speed and he would know way better than me. Not blindingly fast obviously, but Briggs had fairly quick hands and was a little more explosive than Lyle who was more of a thudding puncher.

I tweaked the stats slightly. It's close to a 50/50 fight, but I think Lyle edges it more often than not.

Aggression was Briggs best attribute, I wonder why.

My Money is on Ron Lyle.

    How is timing juiced?

How do we know that Lyle wasn't juiced?

My theory that Lyle was not juiced is for this reason- If you place a side by side of Lyle in Prison when he was boxing for years and a picture of him on the outside of prison when he actually had access to juice you see no difference.

    Also he never popped hot.

Are you serious? If Lyle was as easy to hit as was usually the case, Briggs would most certainly spark him out

Not everyone blows up on juice, and, there was juice in prisons.

And I doubt he was ever tested during his real career (not including his 90's comeback).

So what you are trying to convince me of is when Lyle was in prison serving years in 1966 there is a possibility that Lyle was on the same steroids that Briggs was on?
The steroids Briggs was caught on didn't even exist in 1966.

He didn’t the say it’s the same you dingbat and it wouldn’t need to be. The 60s were so rampart with steroid use that in the 70s they’d already had started to condemn its usage in professional sports.
