Is Danny "Little Red" Lopez rematching Sal Sanchez the most pointless rematch in boxing history??

I don't see how anyone who watched the first fight could think Lopez could have a prayer in the rematch. I would expect to see Sanchez as at least a 30/1 favourite.

Boxing history has plenty of examples where a fighter lost in one-sided fashion in the first match and wins the rematch.

Vegas wouldn’t be giving 30-1 odds, lol.

Pipino Cuevas rematching Angel Espada not just once but twice. After a fearful beating in both fights, Espada should have sued his manager for malpractice after the 3rd fight.

Hagler vs Obel twice for the title was a bit much for me ...

Blame José Sulaiman and his WBC for that.
They practically forced Hagler to fight Obel
Again after he went undefeated between the 1st fight and the 2nd, his opponents between the two fights were nothing to earn a 2nd chance at Hagler's title. And Hagler proceeded to beat his ass again. Sulaiman had a thing for Latin based fighters and Don King.

Fully Obell getting two cracks at Hagler is difficult to justify.

I think longtime champions or champions with a good number of defenses deserve rematches if the new champ wants to give them one. Lopez actually did considerably better in the rematch that he did the original. I have no problems with the fight.

Finically I’m sure Red didn’t mind. It’s a business - I’m sure it was good money. I’d let both those guys belt me around the ring tag team style for a million dollars. A million dollars is hardly pointless.

I don't know how anyone could possibly favor Tyson in his immediate rematch with Holyfield yet............

If Bud and The Truth have a rematch then this will qualify as pointless...My money is on another one sided beatdown.

Fully Obel got rematches due to having connections. Ernesto Espana is another who kept getting title shots that no one wanted to see simply because he had the right connections.

I saw the video you posted a few nights ago. The highlights they showed of their first fight kind of made me sick.

The manager then put him in with a young undefeated power punching Tommy Hearns!

The rematch made sense. Espada was a good fighter who had proved himself over 15 rounds over the solid Clyde Gray and Johnny Gant and was very difficult to beat at home in Puerto Rico where the rematch was being held. The first fight result was considered a bit of a fluke.

Cuevas was 18 years old with 6 losses and though he had made 3 title defenses before the return logic would go with the more experienced fighter and better all round boxer if he could keep away from Pipino fearsome left hook.

Cuevas broke Espada´s jaw and showed the first fight wasn´t a fluke and that he was a real champion. Third fight was a joke, Espada koed 4 nobodies (according to Boxrec one of them was making his debut!) to qualify for that title shot.

Give credit to Espada, he fought valiently in the 2nd and 3rd fights but took a hell of a lot of punishment.
