You're confused, Naseem Hamed, Frank Bruno, Joe Calzaghe, Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn I'd consider 100% British while not having a drop of British blood in them due to them growing up, being raised and even starting families in Britain. Yes Lewis does indeed have a British passport but how can anyone consider him the GOAT British or even English boxer when he grew up, became a man and learned boxing in another country, proudly represented that country in not 1 but TWO Olympic games even winning Gold for them then only decided to move back to the UK for a short time to milk the money out of the gullible English fans. Guess where Lennox Lewis is living now and who's he married to? The man is living in Miami Florida to a Jamaican wife, how very British of him.

Lewis never did give up his canadian citizenship either an even during his boxing career only went over to England when he had a fight scheduled there. In between fights unless he was there to market or promote something he couldn’t get outta there quick enough.

 

Fitzsimmons left england as an infant an never went back ,Spent the rest of his life in New Zealand, Australia an America. Never even had one fight in the UK an was an American citizen when he became champ. Died an buried in America

He may have been English born but there’s no way he can be call an english boxer.

 

Fitzsimmons was born in the early 1860's, New Zealand and Australia were still under British rule and colonies with the British Empire which England was in control of, New Zealand was ruled by a British Government from the British Empire until 1907 while Australia until 1901 when Fitsimmons was already a 40 year old man. A born Englishman by blood growing up and boxing in the United Kingdom, he didn't get a U.S citizenship until 1893 when he was already in his 30's. He's as much of an English boxer as any Englishman who ever lived.

 

Really depends who we are counting as ‘English’. For me it’s between Fitzsimmons and Lewis, although I lean towards the latter who imo was a top 5 heavyweight of all time.
