Moses Itauma or Mike Tyson? Who has been 'hyped' better?

Four decades ago, the medium of video tape was a new innovative way of reaching out to boxing fans. Mike Tyson's team (d'Amato, Clayton and Jacobs) used this medium to promote 'dynamite kid' as the next big thing in boxing. Casual American fans for whom heavyweight boxing was mostly synonymous with Ali and his opponents essentially bought into this hype. And there was an explosion. Mike Tyson became the face of the heavyweight division and indeed of all boxing.

Fast forward to the mid-twenties - we have the Internet and social media. Can Frank Warren and CSM follow the lead set by d'Amato and company? Will British boxing fans see Moses as the man who gives them the manna of boxing delight?

Has team Itauma done it's PR homework? What do you think?

 

I think the hype has calmed a little with Moses, as the 'youngest champion ever' thing just aint happening! And that's a good thing, as he can just get on, and concentrate on just getting better. Interested to see the path for him, as he's far too good for his level atm.

In order to get some hype around the lad you need him brutally stopping fighters like Whyte, Chisora, Wilder, and AJ.

He needs to get in with some big names who are slightly past it and smash them to bits.

That is how you get that hype around you.

However, managing to get these past it HWs in the ring isn’t as easy as it was back in the 80s. They tend to only fight once or twice a year, and avoid facing younger fighters like Itauma.

 

What’s happened to this guy? Is he been active recently or planning any upcoming fights soon?

 

Probably won't ever become a world champion, let alone the youngest ever.

 

Tyson was fighting every other month back at that age so the parallels are just about there. Moses is what, 8-0 now barely a year in? Good momentum and although the Tyson comparison is a bit ridiculous this early, it's not the worst gimmick to hang onto.

 

He’s recently been sparring with Fury. Itauma was on talksport yesterday saying that Tyson is marmite in training, brilliant one day and awful the next. Now that he understands boxing politics, he knows there’s very little chance of himself becoming the youngest ever heavyweight champion and next Mike Tyson.

 

The biblical Moses — the one with the tablets — wasn’t hyped as well as Tyson, lol.

 

It works every time. It even worked with Alan Babic, who was subsequently exposed as the new Kimbo Slice.

 

Hyping fighting by comparing to similar styled former greats is as old as boxing itself.

I remember Tyson being the new Frazier, Frazier the new Marciano.

Don´t know if it happened but I imagine Marciano was probably the next Dempsey.

Gets the name out there to sell tickets.

 

Let's all just take it easy.
