Does Lopez Still Have It?

When the people who enter in the ring with you dont have the least intention of fighting because they know what will happen to them if they do it, obiously you still have it.

 

I love to see the hit and run style. But it was not hit and run, it was run and run. A ****ing disgrace. I don't undertand how anyone could give Ortiz more than 2 rounds.

I'm surprised by the amount of people saying that this fight was close when it wasn't at all, btw.

 

He needs to drop his father who is a net negative influence, he needs to learn how to fight on the front food against counterpunchers, and cut off a ring.

Other than that, he is one of the more talented boxers in the sport right now.

 

Lopez is like Ray Mercer. Stuggles in the fights he is supposed to win, but does well against fighters of elite level.

 

Correct. And this is proved by the number of punches landed by both boxers. Their numbers are identical. Lopez was trying to hit all the time, Ortiz wasn't trying to hit at all.

 

Elite vs who? A out sized Loma, and an overrated Taylor who easily lost to Catteral? Lopez is really nothing special, a limited good fighter on his day, nothing more. We need to stop hyping up all these fighters over 1 good win and a few belts.

He has looked crap or lost in 3 out of his last 5 fights, What more do you need?

 

Loma didn't look great against Ortiz either.

 

He should fight Matias next

 

Agreed boxing is nowhere near as popular as it used to be fans are less likely to give it a second chance when they see a **** fight like this one. Bad fights happened in other eras but there were also more fights exposed to the general public where they would more often give it another chance. The boxing is a joke narrative is strong especially when mma is around. This was not a good look

 

I think that's a little harsh. Yes Loma is undersized but he's undersized against everyone he fights and is still a top 10 P4P fighter. Yes Taylor was overrated been saying that myself for years and like Lopez is limited, but fact is those wins show he's more than just good, good fighters lose to Loma, they don't beat him and the way he beat Taylor who is good himself shows Lopez is a level above just good.

Clearly Lopez isn't a great fighter, nowhere near, he's got a glaring flaw in his game but when given the right opponents who will come to him and allow him to sit and counter he is very effective and capable of beating very good if not exceptional fighters, he just doesn't have the full rounded game true elites have like Crawford, Usyk, Inoue etc which is why he can also lose to guys who are simply just very good.

I'd say he is just very good. Elite when allowed to fight to his strengths proven by the fact he did beat the elite Loma, but also just good or perhaps even bang average when given a style that forces him to do something different than his preferred style.

 

Would you say Shakur, and to some extent Devin fall under the same category as Teo?

 

Yes, Lopez once again struggled against a slick boxer, doesn’t he mean he’s not the same guy who beat Loma and Taylor. People were generally underestimating Ortiz and it showed last night. I think Lopez struggles to rise to the occasion unless the fight is of the greatest magnitude. I still think if he fights Haney he will shock a lot of people once again.

 

I hope so, but I want to see Teo unify against Matias first, would be the best stylsitic matchup. Teo needs to learn how to cut off a ring first unless he gets pieced up by Devin all night

 

He needs a better trainer. With his athleticism, he should have no problem cutting off the ring. That was a big issue for him. He figures that out, fights like last night won't happen.

 

Maybe. Shakur stunk the place out last time but I still thought he won without any controversy but it perhaps did expose a weakness in his game where he much like Teo needs an opponent to engage him to look his best. But I don't think he's so much of a pure counter puncher as Teo as he actually prefers to lead himself rather than counter but against De Los Santos that aspect of his game was shut down because of the risk of being countered. He needs to be able to switch be physical and walk down an opponent at times, be willing to take shots to land his own shots and not think of it as a point scoring game where he prioritises defence all the time.

Haney I also think is at his best when the counter puncher but again, I don't think he's as bad as Teo who almost solely relies on countering. So there is a comparison you can make but I don't think with either Shakur's or Haney's that weakness is so glaring as it is with Lopez.
