So would the heavy fists of GGG be something to avoid for Second to Nunn? Or would Nunn school him? Thoughts.
Golovkin thumps him. Nunn doesn't have the chin nor the gas tank to run with Golovkin. I'd expect the early rounds to be competitive but the longer it goes on the worse for Nunn. He's out of his depth here.
Ditto with Nunn. The Nunn that completely outclassed Frank Tate where he used his superlative hand and foot speed coupled with new found spite from Curtis Parker and Darnell Knox bouts. I still think that Nunn would have beaten the then inexperienced Toney.
Nunn, despite his reputation, had surprisingly competitive fights. He did not outclass career welterweight Starling.
Nunn would go full Audley Harrison here and at best lose wide over 12, more likely stopped in 10 through nervous exhaustion. Golovkin of about 2013 could have lived with anybody who ever boxed at 160.
Nunn developed brillantly under the Goussens from boring safety first boxer into a world class boxer with solid power. Unfortunately Nunn dabbled in drugs and started to listen to the wrong people. He started the downward slope in the Barkley bout where he looked unbeatable early on only to struggle in the latter rounds. Starling´s speed gave him problems and faded Don Curry actually landed a far few right hands in the early going before he was worn down by Nunn. He was never the same after the Toney, with the exception of the 2nd Victor Cordoba (Michael was lucky to win the 1st match) and Crawford Ashley fights. Still I think the Nunn from 1987 to early 1989 was good enough to take a decision over GGG.
Prime Nunn out boxes him but the Nunn Toney stopped gets stopped earlier People don't realize how good Nunn was
I think people forget at times how good he could be. It went down hill a bit obviously after Toney but even then he was beating him. I know his chin wasn't the greatest but the prime version could probably get a decision win over G.
Based off what? What had he done, who did he beat? What did he try to do to make the big fights happen? IMHO GGG wouldn't even fight Nunn. He'd stay at MW his entire career until Nunn eventually moved up, waiting for a chance to fight a shot Sugar Ray Leonard for the pay day.
If Jacoba won another round he'd have beaten Golovkin. Some people think Jacobs won regardless . Nunn was good enough to do better than Jacobs so that tells me all I need to know
Ian Gardner gave young Golovkin very tough fight - that's probably the closest opponent, style-wise, to Nunn that Triple G has faced. It makes me think that Nunn would do well.
LOOOOL Garnder did nothing of the sort. He spent the entire fight running, holding like it was valentine's day and trying to generally unsuccessfully potshot GGG. Meanwhile Golovkin spent most of the night cutting him off and clouting him with his overhand right. Golovkin barely broke a sweat and in getting the win demonstrated just how good his defence was even when applying pressure. Gardner has a good chin I'll give him that. Here's the actual fight: This content is protected I could take a similar tack and point out that if Nunn struggled against no-name brand Carl Jones (getting dumped on his arse in fact) then what would Golovkin not do to him? Close fight as far as I'm concerned. Golovkin had trouble pinning Gardner down, if He indeed was consistantly "clouting him with overhand rights" - I don't think Ian would be standing at the end with how high He tended to keep his chin. Good that You put it in there though, everyone can watch and decide for themselves. You absolutely could. It's certainly not illegal ). It's a good fight, I certainly saw more of triple G (all of his pro fights in fact plus some from the amateur) than of Nunn, whom I saw only in some of his biggest fights in his prime - so maybe that sways my judgement, but yes I think Nunn's style would be very difficult for Golovkin, with his reach, speed and mobility.
