Golovkin - Too Dangerous For Nunn?

Nunn did get dropped but still won every round with ease though not impressively. He really came into form after this fight leading to his peak against Tate and Kalambay.

No doubt GGG´s chin is made of concrete whilst Nunn´s isn´t but doesn´t mean he wouldn´t outpoint him.

GGG is one of my favourite fighters and I was gutted he was robbed in the 1st Canelo fight, I didn´t even bother watching the 2nd as I knew he wouldn´t win but if you look at his CV he hasn´t fought any fighters like Nunn.

Maybe Willie Monroe Jr who is a long way away from Nunn´s level. Nunn´s foot and hand speed were on another level at his peak, he had a surprising inside game with a dangerous left uppercut and body work.

He is one of the biggest wasted talents in boxing, he should have been a superstar on Leonard´s level (they had a ruckus in a nightclub if memory serves me right) until drugs took away that talent. He spent 15 in jail for drug related offences.

Fair enough - I could see it playing out like that.

Andre Dirrell deserves a mention too I believe, while it's in the amateur game. He was probably as similar as You can get. Golovkin beat him in close decision in the Olympics, there wasn't much in it from memory.

 

It’s easy to say that he’d have been out of his depth when GGG has never encountered such a fighter.

He’s never seen a southpaw with that ability before.

He’s never seen that speed, that style and that reach before.

I think that GGG could have beaten him, but there’s no way I’d think it would have been a certainty.

 

That's why our opinions differ.

 

If GGG would have beaten him, it would have been by stopping him.

Why would anyone think that GGG would have won a wide decision over him?

Based on what?

Yet we both know that GGG has never seen anybody like a prime Nunn in his life.

So your confident opinion isn’t based upon anything realistic.

 

I'm partial to both views. GGG might catch him late or he might get outpointed. I cannot see a GGG decision.

 

Toney was landing on him throughout the match. Nunn, despite the scoring, had to work hard.

 

I'm not sure that any Middleweight ever has an easy time with peak Michael Nunn, and I agree that he could have gotten a decision over GGG. Tall Southpaw with elite hand & foot speed, who was very difficult to track down. Nunn could have made this a track meet that GGG would have had a hard time winning. Nunn just makes for a bad matchup for just about anybody IMO.

Also, I thought Nunn had a pretty solid chin. He was caught by an absolute perfect bomb that he didn't see coming vs. Toney, but that was his only stoppage loss in 62 fights. Off the top of my head, I remember him being in a little trouble vs. Cordoba, but don't recall him having any major problems outside of that.

 

That's how I see it, a straight right from GGG ends this late in the fight
