@sdot_thadon has already bought the PPV. His check was cleared by Canelo's bank this morning.

It's not a birhright, he's literally the top contender for Canelo at 168. Why do you act as if Benavidez is getting some 'gift' to fight the top guy?

Who cares if Charlo is waiting in line. He's not a top contender in his division.

I don't mind the occasional easy touch. But Canelo already had that. Not rocket science.

It's not atiquated, it;s what made boxing great. Modern boxing is having 4-5 belts per division and chooseing the easiest and least risky fight. Is that how greatness is made? No, that's how current boxers just get paid. You don't see a dime, so....why is that important to you?

I actually rotate between buying big fights and watching them at fight parties elsewhere. Just depends on how much peace I want that particular Saturday night lol.

He is, but you guys act like he's the only top contender to ever wait lol. The infamous Avni Yildirim was also the top contender in the division lol. When he was Benavidez's Mando not a soul gave a **** Once Canelo inherited him with the title it was a problem.

You don't get to hold the belt, why is who they fight so important to you? The money they make isn't important to me, just a baseline observation for me understand why I'm seeing the choices I see and adjust my expectations to what actually happens in the sport rather than make my own and be upset over and over again. We can't keep acting like all this is new.

I'm not acting like anything. We're simply discussing THIS situation. That's how these threads work. Got it?

Why is who they fight so important?? Are you f'n kidding me?? What do you watch boxing for, to see guys get paid??

No one said it's a new situation But if you've given up on any change for the better, why are you still a fan? Are you even a fan of boxing, or just some devil's advocate who likes to talk about boxing with actual die hards?

It's funny but when we used to talk about possible matchups back in the seventies in the 80s, I hardly ever remember anyone bringing up how much a fighter made to determine his desire to see the fight. We weren't promoters or managers or business students, we were boxing fans.

Me personally as a fan, I couldn't care less about the amounts of money that get thrown around, I just want to see great fights.

I don’t even hear it at live fights now. Money is only talked about by fans online. Everyone knows how silly they would sound in public talking this nonsense.

Yep. And I'm sure that happened onoccasion, but still, big fights were made. Nowadays, the internet makes people think they are insiders or are privvy to EVERY bit of information on every situation.

"Why is the footage of Fury getting a cut so blurry? Why didn't they address that to the press?"
"Why didn't Spence release an official doctor's report when his fight w/ Pac was cancelled? (That's my fave from Joker...)

I asked just as silly a question as the one you posed to me. I watch boxing because I enjoy fights. Sure I have maychups I want to see and was disappointed some never came together, but at the same time I'm still enjoying the fights we do get. I like to see tough fights just as much as I like to see washout kos or a boxing masterclass. Boxing is epic in how many different ways fights can play out. There are so many things I'd like to see but the current model may never change. So I'm not giving up on anything, I'm enjoying what I'm getting and understanding the terrain of the business. And if the sport changes again? I'll still be watching the same. Crying about not getting your dream fight everytime out doesn't make you anymore hardcore than the guys who actually buy the fights that don't sell. And the only reason we talk about money is because we discuss fight negotiations daily here, why wouldn't you when it's a huge component of getting fights made? Sounds kinda silly to want to discuss potential matchups being negotiated but want to ignore the single most important aspect that gets it done or not lol.

Our questions aren't even close to being the same. Bad false equivalency.

But did you enjoy Canelo v Jermall? Was a guy comeing up from several divisions below all good for you? It went out pretty much exactly how most people here said it would.

This a message board to discuss stuff. And that's all this is, not crying. And for the negotiations, what's there to discuss? Canelo is the draw, not his opponents. Canelo is the money in all his fights. Is David Benavidez pricing himself out? Nope. He's been waiting his turn in the division he's the #1 contender for. Waiting his turn, like how you said Jermall 'waited inline', despite not being close to the same weight class.

I'm not against an easy 'gimme' on occasion, or a money fight. But there has to be activity to allow that. If Canelo was fighting three times a year, it's more forgivable. If Canelo's last fight was a tough one against a top contender, than an easy fight is OK. None of those are the case.

Only two fights matter for Canelo. He must rematch Bivol or fight Beterbiev. That's it.

You asking if I get paid was silly, you went there not me. I did enjoy the Charlo fight because it answered questions about him as a fighter. Isn't that the same reason you want to see Benavidez? It should answer questions about both guys. And oh no, this is definitely crying lol. The guy has a 3 fight deal that was rumored to have Benavidez as the last fight when it was signed. It's one effing fight into the deal. Money will always be discussed when it comes to guys like Canelo, Oscar or Floyd. It's just the way it is. Canelo is maybe the most active current champion aside from maybe Inoue I'd guess? He's not the one to complain about activity with. He'll fight other tough fights when it's his time, I'm not bothered because he's always done more than I'd expect him to. There's no contenders for every fight, fans don't even respect ranked guys anymore. So hypothetical Canelo beats Benavidez, then what? Morrell. Then what? Crickets. So let things play out this is the tail end of his career there really aren't many more fights for him we just gotta see. Maybe the 2 guys at 175 that he probably won't beat anyway?

I asked that because fans making issue over money shold not even be a thing here. It's one thing when it's two non-draws like Crawfod and Spence hagling over the purse split. But this is Canelo. They guy who holds all the cards. The guy who brings all the money. EVERY fight for him is a money fight. That was the same w/ Oscar and Floyd as well.

If he does fight Benavidez, I'm more than happy to admit I jumped the gun.

And if Canelo beats Benavidez, then it's the next guy in line. THAT'S HOW IT WORKS WHEN YOU ARE THE CHAMP. Or hell, try again at 175.

Fans have become too jaded about rankings. That doesn't mean they are all bad. But in the case w/ Benavidez, he is the rightful # 1 contender. Jermell Charlo isn't even a ranked SprMW.

Anyway, guess I've said what I had to. No disrespect to you at all, if I did, didn't mean to. I admit to getting cuaght up in the fanboys excusing things for their fave. Didn't get that viber from you. We'll just have to see what happens I guess.
