An MMA fighter has his very first professional boxing match, and knocks down and almost beats the guy that is considered by many to be the greatest head-to-head heavyweight that ever lived. Does Ngannou's success prove that today's heavyweights are not nearly as good as in the past?
Yes, and that MMA fighters (and kickboxers by extension) are no joke. Also that Fury is overrated and probably not as good as advertised if Josh has his way with Ngannou.
Yes. That Fury is and has always been overrated. Also, that Ngannou is a freak of nature who could be competitive in any combat sports out there.
As the past? The mma fighter would smash many of the oldies to pieces. He's massive and roided to the max, and badly hurt or KO'd everyone he touched in the UFC, and he's never been visibly hurt. Yeah, I think he'd be a bit of a handful for the old fighters who had no defence and retired with CTE. What the fight proved is that power and chin override a lot of boxing skills. In the end it's still a fight.
If Ngannou was time travelled to the 1950s he'd cause crowds to run just from his sight. This content is protected
1) Punching people in the face is not rocket science 2) Combat sports have small talent pools 3) Raw size, stength, power, athleticism matters a lot in a fight 4) MMA fighters, kickboxers, boxers and muay thai guys have lots of skills that transfer to each others sports. All of those things seemed pretty clear before but I guess Ngannou doing what he did drove the point home.
Well Guess what. I will Tell you the Story. It proved a lot because it motivated me to write a post here where I genuinely said (no joking) that I think I could survive 12 rounds of boxing with Tyson Fury (I play tennis, I am explosive and and have a reach and height and great endurance). I did boxing a little bit on high school. I really don't see a Reason why I could not survive in the ring with him. The fight with Ngannou just persuaded me.
Yes but let's see how Joshua does first. If Joshua goes out there and starches Ngannou, no case is to be made for anything other than Fury is a shot fighter. If Ngannou has another good performance, then conclusions can be drawn.
Proves a lot of things, the main one being it doesn’t matter if you are a world champion, if you don’t take your opponent seriously on any given night, you can lose
Vitali was also a converted kickboxer, and opinions about him are also divided. And as for the fight Patterson Vs. Ngannou I don't see the fight ending much differently than Patterson Vs. Liston. And I don't think Liston hits harder than Ngannou.
