Ali is the obvious one - he got me into the sport but I didn't see his career unfold in real time.
For me, as a 90s boxing fan, it was Roy Jones. I used to watch his fights over and over on VHS. The things he used to do were crazy. I thought he was unbeatable.
Losing to Tarver and Johnson was bad. But his decline and unnecessary losses also went on for so long... Some of those later KOs (Lebedev, Macarinelli) really did not need to happen. Seeing what he was to what he became was pretty brutal.
    What about you?

Fernando Vargas losing to Trinidad was devasting to me, he was my favorite fighter and seeing him take that type of punishment so early in his career was terrible to see. But I couldn't help but wonder had no low blows taken place, I think he would have been the 1st guy to beat Trinidad.

Rafael Marquez. My favourite fighter of his time.

Please, Trinidad was always gonna KO Vargas. Coming forward and standing in the pocket is the wrong way to fight Trinidad. Trinidad could of ended it in the first round if he wanted but he wanted to take his time to brutalize Vargas's mind body and soul before the perfect finish, and that's exactly what happened. He messed that boy up good.

Did you even watch the fight, Vargas was the one trying to land low blows on Trinidad, wtf did Vargas do from round 7 onwards when Trinidad got the 2 point deductions, Vargas was legit reacting to every body punch Trinidad landed and got warned for legal punches, Trinidad was on the course of disqualification so he switched to just aiming for the head and beat the living dog **** out Vargas. Vargas had ample time to recover and did nothing but eat those chunky left hooks to the face.

Wtf, did you watch the fight? Vargas was winning at mid fight. Lol Tito hit him right on the eagle, if that wasn't low than I don't what is. Reid was kicking his ass too before the low blow.

Vargas came back significantly better from his first loss than Trinidad did from his (at least, if you pretend he beat De La Hoya). Tito was the most overhyped fighter I’ve seen in my lifetime. I could live off the fallout from what Hopkins did to him. I’ll never forget it.

He never returned to prominence. A complete myth of a fighter.

I'm watching the fight RIGHT NOW despite having watched it more than a dozen times before lil dawg. Trinidad knocked Vargas twice in the first and Vargas knocked him down in the 4th, the point deductions happened in the 7th. Vargas wasn't winning ****, the only way he'd have won is if Trinidad got disqualified for a body punch due to over officiating. Vargas was literally the one intentionally trying to land low blows and still got the hyena **** beaten out of him then finally knocked out in the 12th.

Again, standing in the pocket and trying to trade with Trinidad is not the way to beat him. Pre Hopkins Trinidad was always going to beat Vargas, it is what it is.

I have the whole PPV on tape and been watching it since December 2nd 2000! Trinidad got exposed by DLH, and should have lost to Vargas on an even playing field "lil dawg". Reid was kicking his ass.

Please, Trinidad is 20-1 with 16 KO's in title fights, how the **** is that overrated. Beat 3 HOF's, 3 Olympic Gold medalists, 3 division champion, 2 division lineal and unified champ and was trying to go for a fourth against Hopkins.

Regardless, it's so sad seeing a fighter who once operated at their supreme physical peak decline and fade. It kind of reminds you of our own mortality.
But obviously in a boxing ring it manifests itself as beatings and knockouts.
That's why I've never been one to hold losses - past their prime - too harshly against a fighter. It's not like football where you get older and drop down to play in a lower league. Boxers are expected to be at the top of their game all the time, even as they age, despite the margins of victory being so small.

I disagree, I actually think Trinidad beat DLH or the fight could of been scored a draw. Trinidad had monstrous power, DLH knew this which is why he literally ran away the last couple rounds, he then priced himself out of the rematch, the fight could of happened at 154 after the Vargas fight but Oscar was still recovering from the Mosley fight and priced himself out. My point still stands with Vargas, I don't like repeating myself, it is what it is lil dawg.

He did and DLH priced himself out of the rematch. We can discuss in detail which rounds you thought DLH won and which you thought he lost, but the fact remains that Trinidad still got the W though. It is what it is lil dawg.
