Rumored? You mean a totally fabricated narrative by fan boys when they realized Canelo is cherry picking at PBC rather than fighting the opponent who actually earned the fight. If he really had a plan to duck until the last fight, its still ducking. When do you think Canelo will actually admit to this secret plan and actually say he will fight Benavidez in Sept, after he is asked for the 1000th time?

You say Jermell was expected when in reality it was totally unexpected, and a total curve ball. You also seem to forget Canelo turned down a 45m from Benavidez in July last year. He ducked him way back then.

Yes Benavidez has done nothing other than become the youngest 168 division champion at 20 years old, 2 time WC and beaten 4 former/current WC's and is undefeated with an 85% KO ratio after 28 fights.

Plant is actually one of Canelos best wins. One of the rare times he beat a young prime Champion. The fight with Canelo was close until he was caught so if he is mediocre that does not say much for Canelo. Andrade is awkward but to compare to him to that bum charles martin shows how clueless you are about boxing. He was an undefeated 2 time WC who Canelo ducked, and highly respected by his peers.

Tell me the last time Canelo fought as a counter puncher. I keep hearing about his elite counter punching but I never see it.

lol. Even Ryder kept throwing punches and was not discouraged but you think Benavidez will be. Must be nice to live in an alternate reality. I bet your account here Canelo never fights Benavidez. Deal?

Yeah it was a curve ball in that it was meant to be Jermall not Jermell but nobody was expecting it to be Benavidez and if it happened it would be the last fight of Canelo's 3 fight deal as that what made the most sense. PBC wanted to cash out the Charlo's that clear.

Look maybe Canelo is ducking Benavidez, it wouldn't be the first time he delayed a fight, but unlike with Golovkin I don't think he really gains much by delaying the fight as he's the older man and he'd just be aging himself out. I simply see this as a typical PBC type move, marinating the fight and building interest in creating a narrative of Canelo ducking, but I'm not falling for the BS.

How can you seriously go from saying "You think belts automatically make someone the best" and then say Benavidez picking up an easy belt against Angulo who would go onto lose to the unproven Berlanga, proves Benavidez has proven anything other than he can beat up mediocre overmatched opposition. Canelo picking up belts proves nothing to you, but when Benavidez does it, it proves he's elite? Come on at least try and be consistent.

I wouldn't rate Plant as one of Canelo's best wins, Plant is nothing special which is why I don't rate Benavidez's win over Plant either. If 168 wasn't such a wasteland right now in terms of quality, Plant would have never picked up a title to begin with. Which is maybe why you rate Plant, but lets be clear had Plant been around when guys like Ward, Froch, Kessler etc he wouldn't have ever held a title. Christ even guys like DeGale, Groves and Badou Jack are better than Plant.

You are arguing against your own strawman. Literally no one saying that Canelo is waiting for Benavidez to get old. WTF are you even talking about right now?

This announcement seems to have put you on high alert. Why not just be happy that we are a step closer to seeing this fight?

Don't worry, they will find excuses easily not to give Canelo any credits. They always do.

Benavidez definitely knows Canelo will beat him. He just wants that big paycheck.

Damn, it really has been 3 years since Yildrim.
Usually with unified champions the organizations start rotating, thus it takes longer to settle on a mandatory. Ryder was the WBO mandatory, so that leaves us with the WBA and IBF.
Caleb Plant was the last mandatory in 2019 when he challenged Uzcategui.

They were champions, but that doesn’t the fact they had poor resumes and Benavidez’s is objectively better. You mention Benavidez’s resume constantly, but why not theirs? Rocky Fielding was technically a champion when Canelo fought him, doesn’t mean it wasn’t an absolute cherry pick. Why does Benavidez need to prove himself anymore after beating Plant and dismantling Andrade?

Boxing doesn’t work like that, Canelo holds the belts and must defend them against mandatory/ranked challengers. Despite holding all 4 belts since 2021, he’s faced only one guy ranked at 168. That’s a disgrace and he should have been stripped by now.

Why do I need to compare Benavidez’s resume to Canelo’s? That’s completely irrelevant and Benavidez is a young man while Canelo has been boxing professionally since he was 15.

When you are a champion, you have to defend your belts against ranked opponents. that’s the basics of being a champion. Canelo since beating Plant has faced one ranked guy in Ryder, who was extremely limited. Beating a cooked 160 pound GGG and an inactive super welterweight are hardly valid defences.

What Canelo is doing is holding the belts hostage and not fighting legit contenders. Jermall, Crawford, even Munguia are really not worthy challengers for him (Jaime maybe although he’s been cherry picking his entire career). Fanboys like yourself seem happy to lap up mismatches like Canelo vs another super welterweight. However proper boxing fans want to see the best fights, and that involves Benavidez.

Benavidez has no one to blame but himself for losing his title first for cocaine and then for being undisciplined.

Again, had Benavidez not lost his title he would have been the WBC champion when Canelo moved up to claim all the titles.

Canelo has already fulfilled two mandatory fights, Yildirim, and Ryder. And yes, he has to fight Benavidez to justifiably keep the WBC titles, but if he doesn't fight him next, it is what it is, he will eventually fight him I'm sure of that. Maybe September, maybe 2025. Deal with it

Honestly, as much as I want to see Canelo fight Benavidez, I won't be mad if Canelo retired today. He's already fought and beat and lost to much better and more accomplished fighters than Benavidez. Again, Benavidez is a nice scalp to have on his resume, why not, he's a champion, inconsistent, maybe a bit undisciplined but another champion nonetheless.

To me Canelo in his prime proved to fight anyone and everyone. So now that he's on the tail end, let the man make easy money.

Hopefully the fight happens sooner than later so Benavidez can move up to LHW where he belongs.

If Canelo doesn't fight Benavidez this year, I won't be surprised if he retires early next year. I hope not though.
