Thought I'd rank some of Canelo's fights based on how suspect they've looked, with fighters barely throwing punches against a flat footed guy who supposedly punches very hard (despite not being able to knock anyone decent out at 154lbs).

Initially thought Canelo was just a massive cherry picker before the blatant Kovalev sparring session. The Kovalev at the very least warranted an investigation

    Certain sparring:
    >Kovalev
    >Callum Smith
    >Yildrim

    Highly likely:
    >Jermell Charlo
    >Golovkin 3

Kovalev earned a two fights DAZN deal only in case of defeat.

A lot of Canelo's career is an asterisk...especially starting with literal PED use.

Then the Trout, Lara, Mayweather, GGG 1 and Bivol scorecards. The Kovalev fight also seemed...off.

I think some people are just jealous of everything Canelo does.

I find it interesting how his biggest supposed haters are actually his biggest fans and keep him relevant on a daily basis.

It’s not about jealousy - it’s about not scamming the public with come to lose opponents, it’s about erasing corruption and scumbaggery from boxing.

I would like an elite fair competitive sport, not some pantomime wrestling showdown dog shite

Thinking about this, I don´t get why Kovalev would let himself get KO´d after a clearly close fight, yet Smith can go the distance? And Smith got his bicep mangled, nose bloodied and he was clearly stunned on a couple of occasions.

And if his fights are just setups, then why fight Bivol? Because clearly Bivol didn´t agree to anything. Did they just not try to pay off Bivol? If so, why even fight Bivol?
Could have easily paid off someone else.

Who knows, there could be all sorts of reasons but it’s not really the pertinent point. All we know is we had a solid light heavyweight who wasn’t afraid to throw punches against a cruiserweight Yarde and Eleider Alvarez..but was “scared” to throw literally any hard punches (with arms extended) for 11 rounds against a guy coming up not one weight class but two (Canelo) and a guy who hasn’t knocked anyone of note out at 154-160lbs

I don’t believe for one second that Kovalevs short camp and one round where he got hurt by Yarde (despite then knocking him out with a jab) led him to being unable to use his elite level jab and extend his punches on a guy prone to eating straights from significantly smaller guys (see Lara, Golovkin) than Kovalev. Kovalev didn’t just do this for one round he did it for all 11 rounds, with both hands

Its not inconceivable that someone would accept money to get knocked out…especially by someone coming up two weight classes and not a power puncher

But he used his jab... the entire fight. One of the main criticisms was the mainly used to jab to create distance.
Buddy had already been shaping Kovalev to a new mold. He said something like: "You have power, you don´t need to punch hard. You need to use your skills." This change happened before the Canelo fight and it was due to Kovalev´s clear stamina issues.
We saw it in the Eleider rematch:

And it is still the same after the Canelo fight:

The viciousness and power are gone from his right hand. Heck, even his body jabs are light now.

Highlights from the Kovalev fight. The first 2 minutes show Canelo beautifully countering Kovalev´s right hand. So it´s no wonder Kovalev was reluctant to throw it.

I think enough people don´t seem to realize that Kovalev at that point was a completely different boxer and an old one at that.

Also, Canelo has clearly improved his punch technique. He used to be an arm puncher who landed a lot of slapping hooks. Now he puts his weight into shots and lands with the knuckles.

If you have time, I recommend checking out this video.
The yapping aside, he explains really well why Canelo is generating so much power now.

Was no pay off. Kov had a very short camp and was simply shot.

The time stamp you placed..Immediately we see Kovalev jab Eleiders mid section..I don’t recall him throwing any punches stiff and hard like that against Canelo, jab or right hand.

Immediately we see after how Kovalev hesitates and reacts to Eleiders movement..unlike what he did with Canelo..where he was barely reactive to Canelo’s punches, as he was moving up two weight classes and a non puncher.

Op you seem to be confused, most of Canelo's opponents since around the time of the 1st Golovkin fight all seem to suffer the same symptoms. Punching less and committing less to punches. It's almost like something Alvarez does makes them think twice about taking risks and sitting on punches. (Hint hint, counter punches don't feel good) So what you might call not coming to fight is in fight risk assessment and adjustments from his opponents. Don't throw a stupid amount of punches less chances he counters you. Don't commit to the body , you Don't have to leave your head open to that uppercut that split Saunders wig. Not sitting on your punches gives you a quicker opportunity to get your hands back to safety. You watch the show and miss the fight.
