I totally agree. Just saying that handspeed alone ain't a deciding factor. This is almost a pick 'em in my book.
Well if Williams fought him 30 seconds later he may well. I tell you what tho........i'll go with that if you can give me your top 20 ATG list of non heavyweights!!!! What's your 10 favorite fights below heavyweight? Your top 5 P4P punchers.......below heavyweight!!!!
I'm glad to see the majority favoring Louis. It shows there really is the highest respect for Joe among us. However, I pick Liston in this heartstopper, mainly because he is so much stronger. I think he'd try to maul Joe and use that favorite dirty tactic of holding his opponent's head with his right paw while smashing it with his left. Joe will be looking to land big shots inside and he will stun Sonny several times. But Liston lands enough jabs to pile up points while inflicting terrible damage to Joe's face. I see the referee ending it in the eighth. No knockdowns but plenty of thrills. A nervous and sad night for Joe Louis fans. There's immediate talk of a rematch.
Let's see my 10 favorite fights below heavyweight. One is Hagler-Hearns. Another one I really liked is oh wait, I forgot I'm supposed to be digging through the archives for solomondeedes for a specific article. As much as I would've LOVED to finish this list, I'm afraid it's gonna have to wait.
Sonny Liston was the right man, but he wasn't "in the right place at the right time". Otherwise, a different HW history would be written. Joe Louis did go green, but I don't see any reason why Sonny Liston can't repeat what Schmeling did. If we compare them H2H.
This isn’t as competitive as you’d expect at this level. Louis likely demolishes him and there is very little fireworks. JL beats any man to have ever boxed more often then not.
Louis, Liston is too slow and predictable fighter. Liston never experienced that power combined with speed and skills.
