Great fight indeed. I think the assertion that Louis’ hand speed could make the difference is framed as being atop all else…and Louis’ hand speed, particularly in combination, was sublime. I’m really not sure on this one. Though some fights can be hard to pick, it doesn’t necessarily mean the possible, opposing outcomes that one might calculate aren’t emphatic.
Permabanned from living. Cruel, but perhaps, sometimes fair, especially if you do it based on Dexter-like philosophy.
Neither could punch like Joe Louis. And before people start yelling at me about Williams’ power, I said “punch” not “power.”
Louis in a war, late stoppage or decision, and he gets rocked hard along the way. And if they fought multiple times he will not bat 1.000.
It's a little misleading to say that one or the other had the superior punching power. Louis was a jolting puncher. Liston was a clubbing, heavy puncher.
You’re pretty sold on Sonny winning this, eh Swag? With a gun to my head, I’d probably pick Joe - but that might be because he’s my more favourite fighter - though I’m a big Liston man also. So at this stage, the most objective call for me would be to say a coin toss
I was thinking same New. If Louis had less effective power, (and I’m not sure that he did - at least when you consider the best punches Louis could whip out at any time) I don’t know that the difference in power would be that great anyway. Louis’ single shot power was exemplified in fights against the likes of Carnera, Simon and Buddy Baer. The apparent force of his punches was extraordinary imo
Trying to pull a fast one there, eh Swag? No way, Jose. I’ll agree to Heads Liston wins, Tails Louis loses. But c’mon, be FAIR. It’s gotta be the best of 3 tosses at the least. You’ll have to get up earlier than that Sunshine, to pull the wool over my eyes.
No it isn't really important ,until you put a number on it as you did ie 20lbs. Louis was half an inch the taller man.btw.
I think we are getting away from the point which is Liston was the bigger man, would you agree with this?
