Imo, these are a seriously cool set of videos produced by Ashard Boxing. They source some info from Louis’ How to Box book - I have that book also which isn’t too bad. They include fight video clips to exemplify Joe incorporating said techniques. They also demonstrate and explain the techniques themselves on a bag. It’s not just educational and moves you can try out for yourself - but I also think it can help some to better appreciate exactly what Joe Louis was doing in there to reign for as long as he did. The Bomber is somewhat undersold by some these days. When his various applications are isolated and duly analysed for their perfection and optimal effects, I do find it hard to believe that anyone could still underrate Joe. I believe they have some other “How to fight like” vids focused on other past greats if anyone is interested. This content is protected
A full video on Louis' defense with footage evidence? Nonsense. Everyone knows Louis had no head movement or footwork to speak of. This content is protected
I even saw a video on emulating his footwork, what a joke! Everyone knows Joe Louis just stood there, never once moving a leg muscle. Boxers weren’t trained to move their feet back then.
Agreed Pedro. Low tech Joe in super old black and white no less. Talk about looking back through rose tinted glasses. Enough with the nostalgia already. Boxing has progressed since then, leaving poor old Joe well behind. Perfect executions and subtle yet effective defensive measures have somehow now become obsolete. Joe was clearly not a fight’n’ man like SHW behemoth, Tyson Fury. Or so Mr Fury keeps telling us while still managing NOT to crawl through those ropes.
Foot movement was not invented until the 1960s when doctor Legus Ferguson created the elixir for boxing footwork which he gave to his trusted friend Angelo Dundee, to use as he saw fit.
Silly Joe ate steak and eggs instead of amino acid-infused granola bars and whey powder shakes. He would be hopelessly blown away by the sheer protein farts of modern heavies. Different breeds.
I believe they used a still photograph of Joe’s legs throughout that vid, trying to play it off as “live” film. Fake news!
That elixir worked really well. Ali was Dundee’s first guinea pig as I believe you already implied. Yes, Ali was on PEDs. Once Ali ingested it, footwork in boxing went from ZERO to 100 in no time at all. A paradigm shift from the “feet in cement” fighters of the past. That elixir was no snake oil treatment. Some, like George Chuvalo, wanted to remain “natty” and refused the elixir. All credit to those fighters but let’s face it, their virtuosities left them well behind.
I tried to leave it at the implication but you exposed the whole racket! Can you imagine how good the old timers would be if they possesed the ability to bend at the waist and shift their heads sideways to slip a punch? Here is some doctored footage of a geriatric Louis performing such maneuvers; all CGI of course. (10:43, more timestamps in the comments if you want examples) This content is protected
