This content is protected Always read that this was one of the worst boxing decisions ever but had not seen it until today. Came across this today and **** me it's every bit as bad as is said. https://hannibalboxing.com/murder-o...d-the-last-golden-age-of-philadelphia-boxing/ https://tss.ib.tv/boxing/featured-b.../29981-40-years-everett-escalera-still-stinks https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/A...ett decision was, controlled much of the sport.
I'll repeat what I've said since the day I saw it; the single worst decision in the history of boxing. The judges were absolutely in the bag, no judge Is that inept.
Thanks for posting this. I've never seen it and am looking forward to finally seeing it after hearing so much about it.
I was there. We were not happy. I remember me and my buddies yelling at Peltz in frustration after the fight even though it wasn't his fault. At the time the general practice was one official from each fighters country who would vote for his countryman no matter what and the 3rd official from a neutral country would cast the deciding vote. Sadly nobody told that to the idiot judge from Philadelphia who voted for Escalera. The neutral judge voted for Everett
@Freddy Benson. scored this one a few months back. This is what I wrote: Alfredo Escalera v Tyrone Everett (jr. lightweight title) Round 1: 10-9 Everett Round 2: 10-9 Everett Round 3: 10-9 Everett Round 4: 10-9 Everett Round 5: 10-9 Escalera Round 6: 10-9 Escalera Round 7: 10-9 Everett Round 8: 10-9 Everett Round 9: 10-10 Even Round 10: 10-9 Everett Round 11: 10-10 Even Round 12: 10-10 Even Round 13: 10-9 Escalera Round 14: 10-9 Everett Round 15: 10-9 Escalera Total: 146-142 Everett (actual scores: 148-146 Everett and scores of 145-143 and 146-143 both for Escalera on a split decision) To begin, not a scintillating fight by any means and that had a lot to do with Everett. He simply controlled the ring to the point where he made Escalera so mechanical looking in there that the champ was just walking towards him throwing one punch at a time. I thought Ty looked fantastic in there, although the tactic didn't quite make it a barn-burner. Knowing the history on this fight, I really tried to see any sliver of honesty on this decision. I really tried to give a benefit of the doubt to Escalera for anything but still found him wanting. No way any sane/honest judge could give this to Escalera. It's noteworthy on a quote from Blinky Palermo on this decision. "Lou Tress could be bought for a cup of coffee." Hmmmmmmm!
Thanks for the reply. Everett really did put in a dominant and controlled performance did n't he. It's one of those cases where it's hard to see anything other than an outright fix, especially as all the stories came out..
You're welcome. There's some good stuff online at times! Would be interested in hearing your opinion on the result when you have watched it. Like scartissue said think Everett looked fantastic here. A fighter have heard a lot about but never really seen.
