I was just watching ProBoxTV when this question was asked and it raised a point. What would you do? Would you take the easy fights with Munguia and Berlanga for a ton of money or Benavidez for even more (or so they claimed they offered Canelo $55 million) even though he’s the fight the fans wants to see? A lot of people criticize Canelo for taking the easy route here and I’ve done that too, but to be fair….if it were me in there I would also take the easy figures for more money because it’s the smart thing to do IMO.

    Which option would you choose?

If I was a boxer I'd want to maximise income and minimise risk, without doubt.

But as a fan, I want better from the champions in this sport.

If I was Canelo I would stay as far away from Benavidez as possible because I would get my ass retired. Canelo is smart and that is exactly what he is doing.

He can fight who he wants, but he should've given up the WBC and let Benavidez fight for it if he wasn't going to defend it against him. Why not let someone else eat?

Canelo doesn't need to be undisputed to command his salary and sell PPVs. Floyd didn't. Pac didn't. Oscar didn't.

Canelo is just being a petty diva while trying to project himself as a take-on- all-comers type of throwback.

    It's not working.

All Alghieri and Paulie both said "they couldn't be bought". Bradley asked the question.

The sport used to be called prize fighting. I do not condone Canelo avoiding risk but at this point of his career, with all the money and assets he has, why shouldn't he avoid risk and take the money? He's fought whatever big names there had been for a while anyway but I dont see anyone now that would enhance his resume. I think most of us believe he'd beat Berlanga and Munguia now. He's fought Plant. Mbilli has no fan base. Yes, he should fight Benavidez but in the long run would the sport really miss this match? It's not exactly Ali-Frazier or SRL -Hearns or whatever.

Take the $$$ and go play golf is what I'd say to Alvarez. But I agree he should drop a couple belts.

I'd go ahead and get Benavidez out of the way and then just cruise to retirement there's literally no big fight at his weight after that.

No but he can weigh him out. Seems no way Benavidez can stay at 168 for much longer

Canelo already has a TON of money. He's already had a few soft touches recently. This isn't necessarily an "Either this or that" situation.

EVERY fight for Canelo is a big money fight. If he's not interested in facing the top guys, it's quite simple. Drop the belts.

I agree with this completely. Canelo has already made enough money to last him a few lifetimes. He doesn't need more money. If he really believes he's the best Mexican fighter ever, he would add Benavidez, Beterbiev, and Bivol and than no one could say **** to him. Unfortunately, he's deluded and probably already thinks he's achieved enough to be the best Mexican fighter but he's 100% wrong. Adding two hypejobs in Berlanga and Munguia won't do jack **** for his legacy.

The promoters have realised that overpaying Canelo to fight someone like Pookie Charlo or Avni Yildrim is going to leave them with losses amounting to tens of millions of dollars.

His "loyal" fans aren't going to shell out the money either as they're going to demand fights that are competitive and worth the money
