Makes you wonder why a thriving promotional outfit hasn't gone to Amazon in the past with such potential....
Well, Amazon Prime subscribers in the US have gone from around 25 million users a little more than a decade ago to nearly 200 million now. So, when PBC went the NBC, CBS, FOX, ESPN route in 2015, the landscape in streaming wasn't the same. But, hell, now, it's exploded. And some old guys who don't understand streaming at all are still insisting PBC leaving Showtime was its "kiss of death." It's laughable. They only understand the "old way" of doing things. And, to them, that's counting buys on cable in the US. It's such a ridiculously narrow viewpoint to the GLOBAL move PBC is making with Amazon. Hell, Amazon doesn't finance many feature films, but studios all pver the world put their movies and TV shows on there to sell and stream online to a global audience. I'm looking forward to the Tszyu-Thurman fight and waiting for the old "doomsayers" to insist "their source" says the buy rate was "only this" ... and then just put the US buys on there ... Forgetting the buys from the 60 million regular Amazon Prime video users in India, the 30 million regular Amazon Prime video users in Germany, the 22 million regular Amazon Prime users in the UK, the 15 million regular Amazon Prime Video users in Japan, the 14 million in France, the 13 million in Canada ... and on and on and on ... buy rates those naysayers never even considered when bashing this deal. Getting "thousands" of buys in this country and that country and that other country over there ... they all add up. Something that wasn't going on with Showtime PPVs.
Jesus Christ. Did you honestly write that? Would you be happier offering your PPV to 60 Million regular Amazon Prime Video users in India or to NONE? Would you be happier offering your PPV to 30 million regular users in Germany or to NONE? Would you be happier offering your PPV to 15 million regular users in Japan or to NONE? Would you be happier offering your PPV to 13 million regular users in France or to NONE? YES. I think they are "thrilled" to be able to offer their PPVs to a GLOBAL audience as opposed to just a US and its territories audience, which is what the Showtime audience was. Not to mention the fact that the number of Amazon Prime Video subscribers in the US blows the number of Showtime subscribers out of water. And I thinkt he fighters are going to be thrilled, too, especially if they get cuts of the global sales. The market they can sell their PPVs to is the biggest in the world. More potential customers is better.
Now for some reality. Amazon Prime subscribers are vastly subscribing for the quicker free shipping. The streaming service is an added extra but again it does not matter if 220 million people have access to buy a PPV when it's a PPV they do not want. I'm really struggling to understand what is so great about PPV on amazon prime?
I would rather be with my previous broadcasters where they were paid more than $125 mil a year. https://www.*****.net/2018/09/05/al...-reportedly-overtake-matchroom-s-dazn-budget/ In a your fantasy world receiving no money from Amazon is better lol
I'm talking about Amazon Prime Video subscribers ... subscribers who watch Amazon Prime Video ... which blow the number of Showtime subscribers out of the water. And it's not my job to convince you. You clearly don't understand the topic. Just keep insisting they are finished. Meanwhile, millions more people around the world will have live access to the March 30 PBC PPV that never had access to any of their Showtime PPVs. EVER. If they went from a global distributor to solely a US distributor, I'd understand people saying "they are dying." But the OPPOSITE has occured. Their potential audience has EXPLODED. If a card isn't as popular in one country, it may be in others. If one fighter is popular in one country and not another, sales will be more in the country where he's popular. You don't have to build a US audience for a fighter first so US audiences will buy the PPV. If the guy is already popular in other countries, they can carry the PPV buys while fans in the rest of the world catch up. I don't understand why people don't grasp this. But, I'm sure they'll catch on eventually.
The Amazon deals are PPV only. They aren't exposing the event to 100 of millions. Only to anyone dumb enough to pay for it. If you want to watch these fights you have to sign up to Amazon(win for Amazon) and then pay whatever price is set. Amazon gets a percentage of PPV for hosting the event. The purse , venue, marketing still all falls on PBC. Before going Amazon, millions of viewers already had access to these fights. If you were willing to pay. Just like with Amazon
I count as an amazon prime video subscriber simply because I have amazon prime. It comes as free when you subscribe to prime. Me not watching it doesn't matter.
Exactly. The idea that a PPV that would sell terribly on showtime somehow becomes a success due to Amazon prime being the platform is absurd.
Amazon Prime Video users are people who watch, rent and buy videos on Amazon Prime. They track people who regularly watch, rent and buy videos. That's a separate category altogether. There are 60 million regular Amazon Prime Video users in India, for example. Not people who just use it for shipping. People who watch films, movies and events on Amazon Prime Video. I'm not going to explain this.
I'm not Al Haymon. Apparently, I'm just not one of the crowd that thinks you track PPV sales today like you did in 1994 (by calling your local cable provider) ... and I understand global sales are better to have than just US sales. You guys will figure it out eventually. Gotta go.
