US-centric thinking mate. It's so ignorant. The US is literally only just over 4% of the world's population but it's always about them (not to offend the many open minded Americans in here but your idiots do make you look bad). What you are saying is 100% bang on the money.
Nothing really to figure out if this Amazon deal was actually impressive numbers would have been banded about like they did with DAZN but this Amazon deal isn’t anything special Quoting prime users from around the world is stupid most of these countries don’t even follow boxing how many Indians you think would buy the ppv at 8am in the morning I subscribe to prime and haven’t logged in to watch it in months it’s mainly for the next day delivery If the deal was with Netflix I’d agree with you look at WWE they agreed last month a deal with Netflix for 5 billion and told everyone about it
Maybe you'll understand it if I go negative. You make more money if your PPV sells TERRIBLY in 190 countries (including the US) ... than if your PPV was only offered in one country (the US) and sold TERRIBLY there. If you only sell 10 PPVs in one country (the US) = you have 10 sales. If you only sell 10 PPVs in 190 countries = you have 1,900 sales. SEE how you make more? You can still laugh at how terribly they sold in each country. BUT 1,900 sales are better than just 10. GET IT? Jesus. I honestly can't dumb it down any more than that.
The fact that your best argument for this deal is instead of getting terrible PPV buys in one country they can now get terrible buy rates in multiple countries says it all. Race to the bottom indeed!!!
I dont think I have ever seen a sports broadcasting deal announced and months later nobody knows the Value of the deal. I dont think Amazon have paid a penny.
I'm in the same boat as you legion, Amazon "could" be huge but there are unknown factors on how their deal with PBC is structured Is Amazon going to split the costs like Showtime/Fox did? If not they are going to have to really adjust their business model because that was a key part of absorbing a lot of risk.
Very good point. If you remember when the PBC first started running shows they were actually paying broadcasters for the time which meant they had all the production costs. The first few shows the production values were every high but it didnt take long for the production levels to then get worse PBC were bleeding money. If Amazon are not covering production then things are really bleak. The fact that there is a PPV in less than 6 weeks and Amazon Prime have not yet announced any shoulder programming to actually market the PPV tells me Amazon are not covering production costs.
You are making a huge assumption that people will shell out money to watch a boxing PPV event just because it is on Amazon. That ain't going to happen. People have always been able to watch a PPV event. There was nothing stopping some one who wanted to watch. Putting it on Amazon doesn't all the sudden make someone pay for it. It isn't free.
You cant be this thick. It would be the first name on Haymons mind. What this proves is Canelo refused to have Davids name on the contract.
I should have said only PPV schedule so far. Will there be non ppv event, I dont know. If yes thats great. I am all for boxing that dont cost $70 or more for a single event. They have the PPV lined up. Nothing on regular events. "Amazon’s Prime Video and Premier Boxing Champions announced a multiyear rights agreement to bring top pay-per-view boxing events to U.S. viewers." Prime Video will exclusively stream a PBC Championship Boxing event series showcasing top matchups among boxing’s current and rising stars. (Amazon said details on specific cards, dates and locations will be announced at a later date.)
Not a great start to this partnership if the first non ppv event won't be until June. Not exactly hitting the ground running.
Right. There are movies streaming on Amazon that do good business and others that flop. All on Amazon, and all as easy to order as the others. The difference is demand. It's Econ 101.
You sure about that? I've yet to see any announcement about a specific non-PPV card. Would be encouraging if true. Still, tho, in the end the Amazon deal won't work unless Amazon views itself as a co-investor in the PBC boxing business. Showtime did and so did Fox on the PPVs. Tbd
