Bonavena with ease. Rocky never, ever beats a ranked 1970 contender of Bonavenas brute strength and underrated skills. Please, boxing fans would you stop talking about Marciano as something he was not. Rocky, great guy, a 1950 decade guy with average to low power vs full-fleged heavies, and just to small. It is beyond me how ppl put RM on a pedestal. Rocky has three major problems if he ever was to meet a modern over 200 pound ranked contender: He is too small, he lacks power and he lacks talent.

Marciano outworks Bonavena, who's basically Rocky's 1960s twin, over 15. Might even stop him at some point.

Fellas, please, gimme a break! Marciano had dificulties with old, former shot middleweights and old lightheavyweights. The midget choose to fight shot, small worn out Charles in stead of Valdez who beat Charles.

As I have just derived in another thread, Charles was #1 contender when Rocky fought him, whether you agree with the ranking or not You cannot fault a man for fighting his #1. Valdez had the spot for four months.

As for Valdez, he lost to LHW MooreX2, LHW Harold Johnson, Satterfield who was a former middle, Machon X2 and Foley who were both under 200...

Valdez is a myth created in the modern day. In his day, he was fairly lightly regarded, and, as I just learned not long ago in video poster by McVey himself, they apparently did offer Valdez a fight which he turned down by throwing a chair at Al Weil. He was hardly the rugged George Foreman of his day, or something.

Bonavena is one of the most physically gifted heavyweights ever, but shouldnt be favored over Rocky. There is a reason he did not achieve much success. He was inconsistent, and did not have the skills necessary. I would take Rocky by UD here.

I agree with you about Nino. He was just a big playful porpoise.

The question I would like answered is why Valdes did not get a title shot WHEN he was the number 1 contender?
Please post this offer of a title fight for him that you repeatedly say I posted because I have no memory of it!
    ps.Charles lost to Johnson.
Charles defended his title against 3 light heavyweights
Valdes lost to Folley and Machen in 56, a year AFTER Marciano retired.
If you want to bring up irrelevant results Charles was floored multiple times and stopped by Lloyd Marshall.171lbs,and beaten by182 lbs McMurtry and Mathews.

Sir, RM didn't have the style to beat a larger, stronger opponent. If he had been a Montell Griffin type of fighter he may have beaten Bonavena, but RM was a swarmer type of fighter, which is a good style vs boxers, but NOT foes, who are stronger than yourself. A fight between RM an Bonavena would have been very physical, and Bonavena was a strong madman vs swarmers. He allmost ko'ed Frazier, a young Frazier. Marciano would have been a shade too small and not strong enough to cope with the strength and 'evil' style Bonavena had. Give me a larger version of Rocky, say a 215 pound upgraded version of him, and I would give him a chance vs ranked 'big' contenders. RM was just to small to deal with full blown heavies.
