PBC couldn't keep their side of the deal. Why should Canelo believe anything they say? Benavidez already said that there is NO WAY he's fighting Canelo under any banner not named PBC. The fight is dead. If Benavidez really cared about legacy he would do one fight without PBC on the drivers side and fight Canelo at DAZN. He rather stay loyal to Haymon over his legacy, because Haymon made him very rich without having to take much risk.
If only Canelo and Benavidez were under the same promotion, in the same weight class... then they would definitely fight! Oh wait- LOL
At 168 nobody and don't get me wrong I do think Canelo is choosing not to fight Benavidez and take on easier fights. I am no Canelo fan, he's a PED cheat and he is no doubt choosing the risk/reward over simply facing the best out there which for him at 168 is Benavidez. I don't think PBC and Benavidez have been serious about chasing Canelo, calling a fighter out is not the same as actually wanting the fight. When did PBC actually approach Canelo with a serious offer? To my knowledge not until last June when they offered $45-50 mill according to reports. Prior to then it was just all talk and even that offer was not a serious offer because Canelo had made $40 mill fighting Ryder according to some reports so $5-10 mill more for a harder fight isn't really that enticing. If PBC were serious about the fight they'd have included Benavidez in the 3 fight deal. But they didn't. If they were serious after Benavidez beat Lemieux they wouldn't have offered him Plant, Morrell and Charlo, how can Canelo be accused of ducking then when Benavidez's own team did not want the fight after he beat Lemieux and chose 3 other opponents over Canelo as an option? This is why I don't believe the PBC narrative that Canelo is the only one ducking. For me it's two sides happy to avoid each other in the hope the fight becomes a bigger fight than it is now. Which as I said before may very well happen, but it will likely take Saudi money for it to happen soon, otherwise they'll have to keep building the fight, keep building the ducking narrative to rope in more fans to make it sell enough on PPV to meet the purse expectations.
I also wondered why the hell Benavidez suddenly ran to 175 quickly, and a week before he would be able to enforce his mandatory status. It seemed very odd. Today Benavidez had an interview. He said something very interesting. He said that there's no ****ing way he would ever cross the street to make a fight with Canelo. He is very loyal to Haymon. PBC made him very rich, and said that they've been with him from the beginning. My guess is that the reason he strangely and hurriedly negotiated a fight at 175 and announced it immediately, even a week before Canelo's deadline was because Haymon knew Canelo was leaving PBC for breach of contract and he was likely going back to work with Matchroom. If Benavidez stuck around 168, he would be forced by the fans to enforce his mandatory status. Canelo is the A side, he has all the power. The fight would 100% have to be in DAZN as Benavidez has no track record or having drawing power, nor does he have the belts, nor does he have the resume to justify he can make any stipulations let alone dictate what network air the fight. Haymon advised Benavidez to move up to delay time, and not have the public pressure Benavidez into fighting Canelo on DAZN. Again, Benavidez said straight up that he would NEVER cross the street, even for ONE fight. So unless the fight is on Amazon, there is no Canelo-Benavidez fight.
Canelos two groupies consist of one drunk cuck and a deranged flat earther lmao. Two of the biggest losers to ever log in on this forum.
Lol, true that what was expected by everyone when Canelo signed that deal with PBC. I thought PBC would cash out the Charlo's who would eventually lose their titles regardless as both were far from dominant despite having the belts and then we'd get Canelo/Benavidez. But for some reason PBC did not ensure Benavidez was secured as an opponent at all as a part of that deal, which either suggests PBC didn't want it yet or that Canelo refused to sign the deal with Benavidez under the terms of that deal PBC were offering. Or maybe both sides were happy to not have Benavidez as part of the deal.
It's crazy isn't it? And I get why people are quick to accuse Canelo of ducking. But you gotta follow the trail of what happened. It would be easy to just say oh Canelo must be ducking because that's been the popular zeitgeist surrounding Canelo, but then we find out PBC isn't honoring their agreement, Benavidez is moving to 175, and you really gotta ask yourself what the hell is going on. Does Canelo want the Benavidez fight? It doesn't look like it. But does Benavidez really want it? Doesn't look like it. Who's really to blame here? WBC, PBC, Canelo, Benavidez? Are all parties to blame? It sucks for the fans, but it seems that there's plenty of blame to go around.
Assuming that the money problems wouldn't of happened, I predicted way before all this that Canelo would have three fights with PBC, and then renegotiate a one or two fight deal with PBC for 2024 with Benavidez being the last fight. Allowing time to marinate it, and saving the best for last. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/canelo-vs-jermall-on-may-4th.715642/page-3#post-22699520
Canelo has stated that he plans on fighting for "at least" another 5 years, so chances are he will not be retiring next year with his last fight being Benavidez. I'm also wondering what would happen if Benavidez is victorious in his fight at 175 to become mandatory for Bivol Beterbiev? How's he going to make a fight with a DAZN fighter or a Top Rank fighter if according to his interview he intends on staying loyal to PBC?
Benavidez wanted Canelo in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. He wouldn't have gotten the fight this year and wasn't guaranteed a fight in 2025. That's a loooooong time to wait for a 'maybe' fight. He's 27 and smack in the middle of his prime. He needs to see what he has in him RIGHT NOW. Benavidez wanted to challenge himself against a peak Canelo. At this rate, Canelo will be damn near 40 by the time they actually fight, and what credit will he actually get if he wins? The more this drags on, the smaller the fight becomes for Benavidez.
Benavidez knows that Bivol-Beterbiev have rematch clause so he's waiting for the title shot until at least late 2025, and if they're 1-1, he has to wait until they get the Rubbermatch out of the way. He may be waiting until 2026. Al Haymon has these guys under a spell lol
Beterbiev will be even older. Also there's a rematch clause in the Bivol-Beterbiev fight. So Benavidez is waiting a good while. Jaime Munguia was his best option after Canelo. Very odd that he quickly escaped to 175.
