Well, not really. I know some words here and there like many average Joes.

The ancestry dates back to a great (x 4) grandfather, a sea captain who sailed out to Oz in the later 1800s.

Very unique name he had - Peter Andersson. Lol.

What are the odds that I might even be related to Benny from ABBA?

If that’s the case, I might tap uncle Benny for some kronas.

 

Funnily enough I’ve a 6x Grandfather who sailed here (Australia) from Portugal as a fugitive wanted for cheque frauding, & yeah his language has not survived in my family either.

Portuguese I think of as fairly unpleasant though, Swedish is easier for English speakers to learn & a lot sweeter on the ear, though not very useful - Swedes speak first-class English.

My Dad was big on genealogy and found a lot of interesting stuff re our family history.

I do actually have a photo of my great (x4) Grandfather - he was featured in a local OZ paper of the times - very fortunate find.

He looked like a hard man, though not out of step for the times - and they did have to sit still for a while for those long exposures - no wonder some people didn’t look too pleased in those old old photos. Lol.

I’m looking to visit Sweden in the future. And Germany too, not least for their many castles. Mrs is worried about serial killers though - lol.

I told my wife that our very own South Australia tops the list for serial killers per capita.

If I want to see serial killers, I only have to travel interstate. No visa required, though I should copy our itinerary and pass on to family in case we go missing. Haha.
