Is it just me who thinks Munguia is a dangerous fight?

There's always a level of threat anytime you step in the ring. The idea with favorable match making is you select the least dangerous threat available out of all the ranked opponents; while still being able to sell the match to the general public.

And yea GGG was definitely overhyped but was never a massive cash cow like Canelo is, so the critique isn't as much. But there are plenty of people that called out GGG's resume but the excuse was that he was being ducked, which has a level a truth to it. The bigger you are, the more you're critiqued. Comes with the territory.

Plus JM has bad defense. Not good going up against an accurate puncher like Canelo. Granted, Canelo isn't the fighter he was 5-8 years ago, but he is still operating at a high enough level to take out JM.

I agree I think munguia has the height and reach to be an issue but doesn't know how to use it

He is very tough and is taking hard punches without going down but I just feel the fact that he gets hit as often as he does and does get rocked is a very bad sign

For me Alvarez's poison pill is movers with a good jab and guys that can jab him to the ropes but don't get sucked into firefights. Golovkin had the jab part but not the avoid firefights. Bivol took what GGG did and expanded upon it.

If Munguia had a history of smart boxing behind a jab and using his reach I give him more of a chance but he doesn't do that

Well you also have fangirls that might say Yildirim was a good opponent. If you're objective, it seems both groups, balances it all out.

Before the last fight I thought this was a lay up for Canelo but now I am not so sure. Mungia showed he can fight more intelligently with defensive awareness and was cracking very hard vs Ryder. Canelos offense has been quite one dimensional in recent years and with his poor cardio it could turn out to be a very dangerous fight him. In recently years he has fought as a pressure fighter, and Mungia coming forward will allow him to play more of the counter puncher so we might see a different Canelo also.

Its obviously a disgrace Mungia gets the title shot ahead of Benavidez but this is actually a damn good fight. If mungia can take Canelo into deep waters and start putting it on him, who knows. Would also not surprise me if he got knocked out in a few rounds.

This narrative is so funny. GGG more than troubled Canelo and he was not a slick boxer mover. He was an intelligent pressure fighter, so its a myth that only Floyd ,Lara types trouble Canelo. The thing is he has rarely fought many quality pressure fighters in his career. Mungia would be the best one since GGG, and he is more of a brawler.

You don't realize how cringe it is to keep saying this kind of thing after Canelo blatantly ducked Benavidez? Give it a rest, even Canelo doesn't even this rubbish, that is why he chose Mungia.

I think the fitness and high work rate of Munguia will trouble Canelo.

Golovkin troubled him simply because he was a great fighter. When you are fighting a great fighter, you might lose or be in trouble even against a style you are good against.

Munguia is definitely a dangerous fight, his style and size advantage will make it very difficult for Canelo, especially going into the later rounds.

He's improving, and can hit hard. But still... He's so damn hittable. Canelo is a good counter puncher and will probably put him away with something Munguia doesn't see coming.

What other high level fighters with GGGs style has Canelo fought to make you claim he is good against a pressure fighter style?

It's not a very good fight.

I'd much rather he fight Benavidez, but failing that I'd rather see him against Mbilli or Morrell.

After that I'd rather see Crawford tbh.

So I make this the 5th best fight he could have taken at this time.

Low risk fights is what he does now so I'm not surprised.

Up until Bivol he fought the best, even Golovkin only took a year to get agreed, since Bivol he's let the fans down (boxing fans that is, his actual fans don't care who he fights)

Yes, when Canelo knocks out Benavidez, you will probably say "Canelo waited Benavidez to age, this win is not legit".
