    He looked so skinny and lanky. In fact, how did Bob Foster hit so hard?

    Dunno. It’s the same situation with Wilder at heavyweight.

    But Wilder has visible muscle on him. Not bodybuilder type like AJ, but he is muscular

    Isn’t this the Tommy Hearn’s phenomenon? Maybe there is a biomechanical explanation why lanky guys can sometimes hit.

    Body mechanics. It was the WAY he threw his shots. Power seldom comes from muscle. It’s how your weight and momentum is manifested through technique. . Tommy Hearns was tall and skinny at welterweight but he hit like a truck and also carried that power up to the higher divisions

    Muscled arms aren’t where power primarily comes from.

    Listen, power isn't about muscle, it isn't about technique, it isn't about speed, or shape or form. Punching power isn't about genetics or force. Punching power is about-hold on, I think Amazon is delivering this cool soup ladle I got that I can just hang off the side of the pot. I'll explain this later. You're definitely going to wanna hear about this.

    Yeah Hearns was another one. Tall and skinny but could put your lights out

    There’s also musclebound fighters who don’t hit hard.

    Fat guys who hit hard, skinny guys who hit hard, etc.

    Force = Mass X Acceleration.

    As others have mentioned, muscles have nothing to do with power. It's about the pivot and follow-through.

    Power is natural for some. and sound technique increases it. Spinks had both

    There is. They get excellent leverage. Especially
    Foster, Spinks, and Hearns.
    Also being well schooled helps.
