Many would argue that Lewis, the Klits, Bowe etc were much better fighters than anyone Ali or Louis met of that size and I think it's hard to disagree.

That doesn't mean they couldn't best them, but the question is there.

Mesi is from my hometown, and I dated his niece a while back when we were in high school. She was in a near fatal car accident when her boyfriend ran a light. Ten hurt in crash involving NFTA Metro Bus in Buffalo | WBFO

It is a good thing that such a collision happened without human casualties.

I guess instead of "best them" you wanted to write "beat them" :)
Here is my list from the topic:
    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/top-10-h2h-heavyweights.694750/
    1.Lennox Lewis
    2.Tyson Fury
    3.Muhammad Ali
    4.Riddick Bowe
    5.Vitali Klitschko
    6.George Foreman
    7.Mike Tyson
    8.Evander Holyfield
    9.Larry Holmes
    10.Wladimir Klitschko
I put Ali in third, and Louis is not in the TOP 10.
But here's something even more extreme:
Ali is the 10th in the TOP 10, and Louis is also gone.

Foremans relevance in the 90s preempts that argument(at least for Ali). That cannot be reconciled with the superiority of the Lewis/Bowe/Holyfield/Moorer/Tyson generation.

Don't forget Holmes 90's success, that I actually think is more impressive in a way. Foreman would always have a puncher's chance, but that a guy in his 40's could box with these guys really says something.

So, yes, that's a solid argument and I've used it myself a number of times. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it means that Ali and Louis for sure would do just as well around the millenia as they actually did, though.

But of course you can't say for sure that they wouldn't either. And the ones who claim Lewis would destroy Ali should really look at how he did against common opponents with the middle age version of Ali's former sparring partner.

You talk like Foreman beat Lewis and Bowe in the 90's and so did Holmes.
@Bokaj mentioned Lewis, the Klitschko brothers and Bowe, they are not Moorer and Mercer.

yes, but they were still in the top group. Lennox Lewis' level was well set by Mercer and McCall, as well as Briggs, who did not cope very well with these veterans. It is hard to expect that Holmes or Foreman would cope better with the much younger players.

The fact that 40 year old Foreman had a chance is enough. Holyfield fought the whole group of elite 90s HWs and 40 year old Foreman was the hardest hed been hit. Of course prime Foreman dominated almost everyone in his prime so you can argue the Lews/Bowe/Moorer/Holyfield/Tyson would be fine against most fighters but the whole "the old guys wouldn't be relevant today" argument is dead in the water IMO.

Foreman beat Moorer and lost to Holyfield and Morrison with a glass jaw. It doesn't seem to me that he was competitive with Lewis and Bowe.
