It's really something that annoys me. It's great that Saudi can finance fights that we wouldn't otherwise get to see, but I don't have the "big fight feeling" that I usually have when we get to fight week. I have ordered and bought the event on my Sky satellite box and will be watching Friday night on Sky Box Office. If the event had been at the MEN Arena or Las Vegas, I would have been 100% ready !
I can understand that, but surely it is also connected with the history of the place ? Spoke to a media colleague and I have suggested that they add some spectator sound to these Saudi events to make the experience better for the TV viewers.
The atmosphere at these Saudi events have a 'Dalton Smith in a soulless quarter full Sheffield arena vibes'
Oh yeah definitely mate. More of a ‘as if I’m here’ kind of thing after years of watching the big fights there on TV. I doubt there’ll ever be an atmosphere or big fight feeling in Saudi.
Oh no, please retract that suggestion. Remember when Sky tried it out during the first Fight Camp? It was awful and they quickly stopped.
I don't think any artificial sound should be added and the event is either good with a good atmosphere or a good event with a flat atmosphere. The downside of Saudi loot is UK fans can no longer attend the big events, in small Saudi Arenas with a flat atmosphere.
In no way do I want what we experienced during Corona with empty stadiums and an artificial spectator sound, but you can improve the product so it becomes a better experience for the TV viewers. For approx. 15 - 20 years ago I helped produce a lot of golf for the European tour and we had sounds of putts, swings and spectator roars that we could put in when it suited. I know it's wrong but it made the product better and that's what I want for these Saudi events.
