Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou •

That wasn’t prime K1 when he won.

If Overeem had to go into a tournament with prime Hoost, Bonjasky, Aerts, Schilt, Lebanner, Crocop, Hug, Ignashov and the likes you think he would have won? I don’t think so either.

 

Well, i was thinking yesterday to answer to you, but now i am gonna do it:

Only some catagories:

1) Brock Lesnar vs All HW Boxing Champions in history
2) Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury in a street fight
3) Does MMA favours grappler's over strikers

To 1):
It's incredible how Dana White's propaganda worked out. Lesnar was a damn good amateur-wrestler and had a solid striking, with soldid grappling, but not more then solid.
If he had fought Fedor in 2008 or so when Fedor reached the end of his prime, still the Russian would have killed him. Only the Dana White Propaganda show made people think Lesnar would have any chance against Fedor.

Means: No, because Lesnar is definatly not among the greatest MMA fighters ever, he wouldnt beat all boxing heavyweight champions in street fights. Some of them would be able to hit him first and KO him, someone like Foreman for example, but Tyson and others would have their chance too.

But Fedor, who is imo the Nr. 1 or 2 heavyweight MMAist of all time, together with Bones Jones, both above Ngannou, would be the huge favorite against all boxing HW champions in street fights.

To 2):
Fury isnt a killer puncher like Foreman, Tyson, Shavers etc., and he even admitted yesterday he hit Ngannou with his hardest shots, and Francis didnt even blink.
Means: If Luke cant even hurt Francis with his best punches, he would be lost in a street fight. Ngannou would kill him and it wont even be competitive.

To 3):
Even if this guy here is a Wing Chun instructor, he spoke in this video here from about 10 years ago about several things in the UFC, and that the environment in MMA indeed favours grappler's. I know many ppl consider WC as BS from A to Z (Anderson Silva trains it because it has some good things in close quarter combat), but styles like japanese Aidiko (which has become a target of bashing because of Steven Seagal) but also korean Hapkido consist 90% of joint manipulations and stuff like that, means attacking fingers, wrist, etc., and all of this isnt allowed in the UFC. That s like saying kicks are useless because you dont see them in boxing (they are ilegal in boxing).

You dont have to agree with everything what this guy says, but with some points he is correct. Some very effective things against grabs are things like attacking eyes (look what Mirko Cro Cop did to Mostapha al-Turk in 2009, he finished him with one finger jab which was not seen by the referee), but also dirty stuff like biting or manipulte fingers etc., all of this isnt allowed in MMA but in the street everything is legal.

The buttom line is MMA or the UFC are definately closer to a street fight then boxing, boxing is one 25% of a "real" fight sicne they are no kicks, no ellbows, no knees, no hodling, no grappling, nothing, but still MMA isnt 1-1 like a street fight. I know some MMA fanatics say so, but even ppl like Bas Rutten disagree on that.

 

It wasnt, but it was still far better than Glorys HW scene. He beat prime Badr, Spong, Saki and Teixeira and an aging but still pretty good Aerts. If the Rico fight had happened he probably would have lost on account of being 40 years old and washed, but prime for prime he may well have beaten Rico. Right now Ciryl Gane and Ngannou honestly would pose more of a threat to Rico than the actual kickboxing challengers he fights.

Lets not forget Semmy Schilt was an MMA fighter who transitioned to kickboxing and dominated too.

 

Tyson Fury looked to be afraid.

He disgraced the sport of boxing by showing up to fight Ngannou in terrible physical condition. He's terribly lazy and irresponsible.

 

The main point is that when a MMA fighter feels threatened they always revert to “But in MMA…..” or “on the streets” but that’s not what they are going to do right? Ngannou is in boxing now. The way he is talking he makes it sound like boxing isn’t all that. If he thinks that way then he should go fight MMA again for peanuts.

Honestly I never thought I want Joshua to win a fight so badly.

 

In the Ubereem era the guy was a god on earth. I wouldn't ever bet against that form of him.

That was funny to be fair but the sooner we get the African sob story & his groupies out of boxing the better.. then we can focus on competitive bouts rather than this silly nonsense for casuals & the Saudi downs prince.. I'm not a huge fan of Joshua but I hope he gets the business done or boxing is going to be in the shitter

Joshua is clearly the villain in this scenario. How could he not be? not only is he an unlikeable fake diva with a fragile ego and a mask thats slipped more and more over the years, but after years and years of fans waiting in vain for AJ vs Wilder or Fury hes fighting a guy from a different sport, under full boxing rules with zero compromise, and is getting paid over twice as much to do so (on top of the roughly 30 mil he got last year to fight bums) and the best part is he STILL might lose. If it goes to the scorecards he will most likely be gifted the decision even if he lost, if he gets KTFO Ngannou will be forced to rematch him, again under full boxing rules, but if Ngannou loses there will be no rematch.

But yeah, totally rooting for Joshua lol.....

 

The ass end of the K1 years are still better than any HW kickboxing that came after. Rico was struggling hard with Badr Hari like a decade after Reem fought him.

 

Everyone was roided to the gills during K1.

And why the heck you changed your view, as few weeks or a month ago if i'm not wrong you were saying Ngannou going to beat AJ ?
And that Ngannou is a monster with a brick for hands and chin.

Also and this is not for you, but street fighting and MMA fights is completely different as well. So people who think MMA is the closest to street fighting or view it as equal, couldn't be more wrong.
And i agree Ngannou or anyone coming to Boxing, shouldn't even mention what would have happen if that was MMA, street fight or so.
Why even bring that ?

But the current situation with Fury and Ngannou is, Fury was running his mouth and was talking crap. He was also saying b.c. on social media how he is the baddest man and would beat this or that guy if they were in the same room. And behind the camera they have some interaction with Ngannou, as Fury was running his mouth or so.

 

Overeem was a legit kickboxer before doing MMA. By the time he won the k1 grand Prix his kickboxing skills were a shadow of what they were as a youngster.
