I mean… he’d probably be a good journeyman puncher like maybe a Purrity or someone like that. Minus the chin Ross had. Probably another Derrick Jefferson. Would have his moments but ultimately get shut off a few times like tonight and that would be that.

He hasn't shown any potential other than the side show versus Fury. Its impossible to say based on two fights in which one was against a out of shape Fury and a laser focused Joshua with two disparate outcomes.

No. He would have to have started at about 12/14 years old.

Fury made him look good. Against a real boxer like AJ Francis got destroyed in minutes. Same happened to Wallin.
Had Francis started training from a young age, he might have risen to be among the top 30 fighters.

This aged poorly but you did a great job of noting that Ngannou would turn southpaw. :)

If he started slowly rather than going in against bloody prime Anthony Joshua in his second fight.

I think even the version of Ngannou we got could knock off some top 30 level guys.

As far as if he came in at 27. I dont know. Hes big and athletic with raw power and a good chin (although its likely cracked now) but that alone only gets you so far. Theres also the factor that Ngannou the boxer does not get the same route that Ngannou the ex-MMA fighter gets. Ngannou the boxer probably gets fed tons of cans like most up and coming boxers do but then on the flipside he probably just stays in obscurity and never gets offered any big high profile fights either. He was able to get the opportunities he got because he leveraged his name value from being in the UFC.

Yep Ngannou is being overrated because Fury didn’t even train for their fight. AJ did what a top level heavyweight should do to a MMA fighter.

At the very least, he would have been a Dominic Breazeale-level boxer.

    Anthony Joshua 12 (6)/41 29.3%
    Francis Ngannou 8 (3)/42 19%

    JABS
    Joshua 7 (5)/32 21.9%
    Ngannou 5 (2)/21 23.8%

    POWER SHOTS
    Joshua 5 (1)/9 55.6%
    Ngannou 3 (1)/21 14.3%

5 of the 12 punches AJ landed were power punches.
3 of those 5 power punches sent Francis to the canvas, with the last one being a knock out.

    I am little sus.
    • Joshua did not only outbox, outshine, 3x knockdown and scored a legit KO, he put Naganou to sleep.
    • If it Sounds too good - something must be wrong - Joshua is a good fighter, but that good, stable and confident in infighting.
I say fixed. - everything except the "sleep" part, that might occured naturaly, but Naganou did get hit with nonsense shots.

Is that the last time we see a ufc star thrown in with a proper heavyweight champion in his prime? Could end up dangerous was a bad K.o.
