He deserved to live into old age. At least he should have reached 70

He treated his body like a garbage can, you aint getting old with that plus Liston had some severe demons upstairs...........all life full of alcohol and drug abuse will do you in , he OD'd on Heroin , a major downer and the heart said just *** it, happens all the time, probably had major artery blockage too.

Would you say the same about him if he’d lived the exact same life but hadn’t been a great fighter?

A society is better off without Sonny Liston’s.

It’s tragic when just about anyone dies young. But with all due respect to him, he wasn’t known for being a particularly great human being either. Of course I’m sure I’m gonna get a lot of crap for saying that and probably by somebody who read some obscure book alleging that he helped old ladies across the street, gave money to the poor, and magically cured sick children.

People are, generally, way too willing to give a pass to athletes for who they are. Judge the whole man, not just the celebrity.

Agreed. As much as we all love boxing, the sport is undeniably loaded with guys who are sitting in hell as we speak.

Ol Sonny shoulda started sooner, I derailed him I felt rotten after but I always made’m earn there folding money. Some buddies of mine brought him in from Saint Louis back when he was just a young ruffian. Sonny looked geriatric even then so I thought he had time in the game but he didn’t and ain’t say otherwise even when we were lacing up.I feinted a left when we got close and still looking mean but amateurishly he tried to reach across the ring to parry it. I realised then I was that bums deliverance he did credibly take my right like “open buds absorb the dew” that is till the Ol hook came upon him. lima bean Liston was green so he quit like a bum by escaping through the ropes, teary eyed he fled the gym and went on a crime spree I assume to pay his way back to his Momma.

Be forewarned, it is not for the faint of heart…

McClellan was involved in underground dog fighting. Family confirmed his involvement, & that the story he once purchased a Labrador & taped its mouth shut so it could be slaughtered by one of his fighting dogs without risk of injury, to be true. Probably more than once, if we’re being realistic.

The autopsy report doesn't say he overdosed. It says there were traces of it.
